Rate of pay: $16.00/hr - $20.60

Shift: Shifts will vary

JOB SUMMARY:

In conjunction with the mission, the Bus Driver is responsible for transporting passengers to and from scheduled destinations in accordance with the general policies set forth by the YMCA.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be a minimum of 21 years old, have a valid Florida CDL license, meet the general qualifications as provided under FMCSR, Part 391 (Qualifications of Drivers) and meet the YMCA of the Suncoast driving criteria. Must possess effective communication and organizational skills. Broad overview of the YMCA's goals and purposed preferred. CPR/AED, First Aid and S endorsement preferred. Upon hire, must complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE. Get SMART preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Must have an advanced understanding of the operation of a school bus.

PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

May be required to sit and handle tropical climates for extended periods of time. Must be able to remain poised and composed under stressful circumstances on the bus. Must have current, qualified annual physical as mandated by state and county.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities:

  1. *Role model SMART behavior.
  2. *Maintain clean vehicles, discipline/order while in route, and maintain vehicle reports.
  3. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment.
  4. *Follow emergency procedures in case of accidents or vehicle breakdown.
  5. Remain with passengers at all times, never leaving group in the event of an accident or breakdown. Inform Executive Director immediately of any emergency to include accidents and/or breakdown.
  6. *Operates vehicle in a safe manner, abiding by all posted road signs, limits and warnings.
  7. *Picks up all trash in aisles and under seats and sweeps out vehicle after each use verifying the bus is clean.
  8. *Bus Driver is to immediately confirm with the field trip supervisor to include a visual walk through and "sweep" of bus to ensure all children have been accounted for and no children are left on the bus. If driving a YMCA bus, must raise flag to indicate bus has been checked and is empty.
  9. *Reports to locations as assigned.
  10. *Maintain logs and checklists on vehicle maintenance and operating conditions.
  11. *Communicate with the Vice President of Building and Grounds and/or Fleet Manager on concerns and maintenance on bus in a timely manner.
