How much do yield engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 21, 2026, the average yearly pay for yield engineer in the United States is $109,607.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $94,500.00 and $126,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a yield engineer?

A Yield Engineer is responsible for analyzing and improving manufacturing processes to maximize product yield and quality in semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing. They use data analysis, failure analysis, and process optimization techniques to identify defects and implement corrective actions. Yield Engineers collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, design engineers, and quality assurance teams, to enhance production efficiency. Their role is crucial in minimizing waste, reducing costs, and ensuring high-performance products.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a yield engineer?

As a Yield Engineer, you’ll spend your days analyzing production data to identify trends, investigating root causes of yield losses, and collaborating with process and equipment engineers to optimize manufacturing processes. You’ll frequently use data analysis tools and work in both cleanroom and office settings. Your role also includes preparing reports, presenting findings to cross-functional teams, and supporting new product introductions. This combination of technical analysis and teamwork ensures products consistently meet quality and efficiency standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a yield engineer?

To thrive as a Yield Engineer, a strong background in semiconductor process engineering, statistical analysis, and problem-solving, often supported by a degree in engineering or a related technical field, is essential. Experience using statistical process control (SPC) software, data analysis tools (such as JMP or Minitab), and familiarity with cleanroom protocols are typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to convey complex technical results clearly help Yield Engineers collaborate across departments. These skills are crucial for identifying yield issues, implementing improvements, and driving manufacturing efficiency in high-tech production environments.

How much does a yield engineer make?

A yield engineer's average salary typically ranges from $70,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Senior or specialized yield engineers with certifications and advanced skills can earn higher compensation, often exceeding $130,000 per year.

What does a yield engineer do?

A yield engineer analyzes manufacturing processes to improve product quality and maximize yield rates by identifying and reducing defects. They use data analysis, statistical tools, and process control techniques to optimize production efficiency and ensure products meet quality standards. This role often requires knowledge of semiconductor fabrication, process engineering, and quality management systems.

Description -
Job Summary
The MEMS organization is seeking a highly motivated Yield Engineer to drive yield monitoring, analysis, and improvement activities across manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for identifying yield loss mechanisms, responding to yield excursions, developing yield improvement roadmaps, and partnering with cross-functional teams to improve product quality and cost performance.
The Yield Engineer serves as the focal point for yield performance, working closely with Integration Engineering, Process Engineering, Product Engineering, Failure Analysis, Manufacturing Operations, and Worldwide Manufacturing partners to rapidly identify issues, drive root-cause investigations, and implement robust corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities
Yield Monitoring & Reporting
  • Monitor yield performance across products and process modules
  • Identify yield excursions, emerging trends, and areas for improvement through statistical analysis and data mining
  • Establish and maintain yield dashboards
  • Communicate yield performance, risks, and opportunities to technical and management teams

Yield Analysis & Improvement
  • Lead or support investigations into yield excursions and out-of-control conditions
  • Develop and prioritize yield improvement projects based on business impact and technical risk
  • Partner with process and integration engineers to evaluate process changes and improvement opportunities

Manufacturing & Operational Support
  • Establish yield hold limits and response plans for significant yield deviations.
  • Support material disposition decisions for non-conforming product.
  • Assist in process & tooling qualifications, manufacturing readiness assessments, and production ramp activities

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in wafer fabrication - familiarity with photolithography, deposition, etch, metrology, and electrical test
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools

Knowledge & Skills
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
