What is a yard mule?

Yard Mule drivers, also known as yard jockeys or yard spotters, are workers responsible for moving trailers and containers within a warehouse, distribution center, or freight yard. They operate specialized vehicles called yard mules or terminal tractors to efficiently position trailers for loading, unloading, or storage. Their work helps streamline logistics operations by ensuring trailers are in the right place at the right time, but they typically do not transport goods on public roads.

What are some common challenges faced by yard mule drivers, and how can they be addressed?

Yard Mule drivers often face challenges such as maneuvering trailers in tight spaces, managing multiple trailer moves under time constraints, and adapting to changing weather conditions. Effective communication with warehouse staff and other drivers is crucial to ensure safety and efficiency. Staying organized, being attentive to surroundings, and maintaining equipment can help overcome these challenges and contribute to a smooth yard operation.
