What are YMS (Yard Management Systems)?

YMS stands for Yard Management System, which is software designed to manage and optimize the movement of trucks, trailers, and containers in and around a warehouse, distribution center, or manufacturing plant’s yard. It helps streamline yard operations by providing real-time visibility into yard assets, scheduling dock appointments, and tracking inventory location. YMS improves efficiency, reduces wait times, and enhances communication between warehouse staff and transportation providers. Businesses use YMS to minimize delays, lower operational costs, and improve overall supply chain performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) Administrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) Administrator, you need a solid understanding of immigration processes, visa regulations, and document verification, usually supported by relevant administrative or legal qualifications. Familiarity with government databases, case management systems, and digital documentation tools is typically required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for managing sensitive information and guiding applicants. These competencies ensure compliance with legal standards, efficient processing, and a positive experience for applicants.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in Yard Management System (YMS) roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working with Yard Management Systems often encounter challenges such as coordinating real-time communication between warehouse, transportation, and yard teams, managing unexpected arrival changes, and ensuring accurate tracking of trailers and shipments. To overcome these, it’s important to develop strong organizational skills, remain adaptable, and leverage the automated features of the YMS for efficient scheduling and reporting. Proactive communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams can also help address issues promptly and maintain a smooth yard operation.

Job description

Job Description:

About Kaleris

Many of the world's largest brands rely on Kaleris to provide mission-critical technology for yard management, transportation management, maintenance and repair operations, terminal operating systems, and ocean carrier and vessel solutions. By consolidating supply chain execution software assets across major nodes and modes, we address the dark spots and data gaps that cause friction and inefficiency in the global supply chain.

The Role

The YMS Integration Consultant is a critical member of the Professional Services team, responsible for leading the end-to-end implementation of integrations between the Kaleris Yard Management System (YMS) and customer-facing enterprise platforms such as Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and other third-party applications. This individual serves as the primary technical authority for all integration-related activities following the sale of a YMS product. They are deeply embedded in the customer journey from initial discovery through go-live and beyond.

In this role, the Integration Consultant partners closely with customers to understand their operational workflows, map data flows between systems, and to design integration architectures that minimize friction for end users. To this end, the Integration Consultant is principally responsible for partnering with customers to design "reverse interfaces" which interact with the native YMS API(s). Success in this role minimally requires fluency in common internet and data interchange technologies (e.g., HTTPS, SSH). The Integration Consultant excels where acting as an advocate both for developers and end users: they should be equally comfortable embedding with engineers and operations managers when shipping an integration.

Beyond implementation, the YMS Integration Consultant plays an ongoing support and troubleshooting role, diagnosing issues in live production environments and developing automation tools to improve the efficiency and repeatability of integration testing and deployment. This person thrives in ambiguity, is comfortable working across internal teams (Engineering, Cloud Ops, Product, Sales), and takes ownership of outcomes from discovery all the way through post-go-live support.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

The Integration Consultant manages the full lifecycle of integration activities across multiple concurrent customer engagements. On any given day, this person may be leading a discovery call with a new customer, configuring a staging environment, reviewing API logs, or coordinating with Cloud Ops to deploy services. The role demands both deep technical execution and strong customer-facing communication skills.

  • Conduct discovery sessions to understand customer integration goals, operational workflows, and existing system landscape (TMS, WMS, ERP, etc.), and map those workflows to YMS import/export events and API interactions
  • Facilitate key integration architecture decisions including API Gateway vs. SNS/SQS approaches, authentication methods (API key, OAuth 2.0, mTLS), and cybersecurity/compliance requirements
  • Coordinate with Cloud Ops to deploy required services, configure YMS system parameters, webhooks, and data mapping tables in staging and production environments
  • Submit and validate test messages, review logs, and develop automation scripts to support iterative testing and edge case resolution
  • Use AI-powered log analysis and observability tools to reduce mean time to diagnosis on production integration failures
  • Diagnose and resolve production integration issues, including authentication failures, firewall misconfigurations, and missing idempotency keys
  • Leverage AI coding assistants to accelerate the development of integration scripts, test automations, and data mapping utilities

Qualifications

  • BS degree
  • 3-5+ years in a technical implementation, solutions engineering, or integration consulting role within a Professional Services or SaaS delivery environment
  • Working knowledge of RESTful APIs, API Gateway architecture, and AWS messaging services (SNS, SQS), with experience in authentication protocols including OAuth 2.0 and mTLS
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, API gateway architecture, and cloud messaging services; preferred experience working with common integration patterns (e.g., webhooks, thin events and callbacks, retries with backoffs)
  • Comfort with the command line interface, especially curl and sftp-the ability to dig deep on verbose logs and troubleshoot common errors; complementary networking and DNS knowledge a plus
  • A growth mindset toward AI adoption, eager to experiment with new tools, share findings with the team, and help shape AI-forward delivery practices
  • Strong data structures and typing fundamentals are a must
  • Familiarity with YMS, WMS, or TMS platforms and yard operations concepts such as trailer lifecycle management, shipment workflows, and asset tracking
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering concepts and the ability to use LLMs effectively for tasks such as code generation, log summarization, and documentation drafting
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and manage multiple concurrent implementations
  • Availability to work flexible hours and adapt to a global company's needs

Optional

  • Basic familiarity with common web development languages (Ruby on Rails, JavaScript) a plus
  • Cloud certifications (AWS Cloud Practitioner or otherwise) a plus
