Job description

Quality Inspector – CMM Programming 2nd Shift


Primus Aerospace is currently seeking a Quality Inspector with a focus on CMM programming to join our Quality team. Primus Aerospace is a leading manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense & space OEMs / Primes & Tier I suppliers. The company specializes in producing high-tolerance, complex geometry parts machined out of standard and exotic metals. Primus works directly with all major aerospace manufacturers (e.g., Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop) to provide components to mission critical civilian and defense programs. 


This role balances hands-on inspection responsibilities with independent CMM programming duties. The ideal candidate is comfortable both performing first piece, in-process, and final inspections and writing, editing, and optimizing PC-DMIS programs to support production and quality requirements. 


2nd Shift: Monday - Friday 3:30 PM - 2:30AM

Pay Rate: $30-$45(Plus 40% differential pay $42 - $63)


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities 

  • Responsible for assuring that assigned activities are performed in accordance with the Quality Management System 
  • Perform First Piece, Lot, In-Process, and Final Inspections against customer requirements and print specifications 
  • Write, revise, and optimize CMM programs (PC-DMIS) to reflect customer print specification requirements 
  • Analyze and interpret CMM reports and inspection data to determine adherence to customer prints and specifications 
  • Create CMM setup and operational instructions specific to part and machine 
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, including written descriptions of results and statistical analysis 
  • Provide support to the QC team with FAI, in-process, or final inspection activities as needed 
  • Perform daily and weekly maintenance of CMM machines and ensure programs and inspection data are stored and backed up correctly 
  • Ensure CMM software (PC-DMIS) is kept up to date and maintained 
  • Apply GD&T principles and ASME Y14.5M interpretation to inspection and programming work; stay current with GD&T standards, terminology, and inspection methodologies 
  • Understand and follow internal inspection procedures and maintain accurate inspection records 
  • Understand and maintain the ERP system per company policy 
  • Provide technical assistance to production, manufacturing engineering, and quality personnel as needed 
  • Keep current with industry inspection techniques, practices, and required standards 
  • Be willing to perform other duties as assigned (Calibration, Audits, CAPA, Customer Complaints, RMAs, etc.) 


Requirements 

  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR 120–130) and eligible to obtain a Secret level security clearance 
  • 2+ years of CMM inspection experience 
  • 1+ years of independent PC-DMIS programming experience (writing and editing programs, not just running existing programs) 
  • First Article Inspection (FAI) experience and data reporting 
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) 
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot CMM faults 
  • Strong verbal and written communication 
  • Aerospace experience desired 
  • Willingness to work overtime 
  • Ability to meet deadlines
