Meat & Seafood Clerk - Barbur World Foods
Portland, OR

World Foods is hiring a Meat & Seafood Clerk to join our team at our Barbur location. This position focuses on providing excellent customer service while assisting customers with meat and seafood selections, answering questions about cuts and varieties, and preparing products according to customer requests and store standards.

We offer a full-service Mediterranean deli, meat and seafood department, curated beer and wine selection, local and unique produce, and groceries that highlight both local and international foods.

Our goal is to provide inspiring products and delicious house-made foods in a warm and welcoming environment.


Responsibilities
  • Provide friendly and knowledgeable customer service in the meat and seafood department

  • Assist customers with product selections, questions, and special requests

  • Prepare, wrap, weigh, and price meat and seafood products

  • Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing service cases

  • Rotate products and monitor inventory to ensure freshness and minimize waste

  • Keep products properly refrigerated and follow food safety guidelines

  • Follow department cleaning and sanitizing procedures

  • Assist with maintaining Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) compliance


Qualifications
  • At least 6 months of work experience (customer service or grocery experience preferred)

  • Ability to learn new processes quickly and apply them effectively

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Reliable and punctual with strong work habits

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Customer-focused mindset with a passion for food

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English


Physical Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must possess a valid Food Handler's Card

  • Ability to stand for extended periods

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance

  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and move throughout the store

  • Ability to see clearly at near and far distances and respond to sounds
