The organization has recently made a significant investment in a new manufacturing operation in Williamsburg, Virginia and is continuing to expand its workforce, operational capabilities, and market presence.

Position Overview

The Human Resources Director will serve as the senior HR leader for a growing U.S. operation and will be responsible for developing and executing people strategies that support business growth, organizational effectiveness, workforce development, and employee engagement.


Reporting directly to executive leadership, this individual will oversee all aspects of Human Resources including talent acquisition, employee relations, organizational development, compensation and benefits, performance management, compliance, workforce planning, training, and leadership development.


The successful candidate will be both a strategic business partner and a hands-on leader capable of building scalable HR programs and processes within a fast-paced manufacturing and operational environment.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Human Resources Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive Human Resources strategy aligned with business objectives and growth plans.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, and talent management.
  • Partner with business leaders to drive employee engagement, retention, organizational effectiveness, and leadership development.
  • Establish scalable HR systems, policies, programs, and processes that support continued organizational growth.


Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Develop and implement recruiting strategies to attract and retain top talent across manufacturing, operations, engineering, supply chain, finance, and corporate functions.
  • Lead workforce planning initiatives to ensure staffing strategies support operational and business objectives.
  • Partner with managers to improve hiring effectiveness and candidate experience.
  • Build talent pipelines and strengthen employer branding initiatives.


Employee Relations & Organizational Culture

  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance workplace culture.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to leaders regarding employee relations, performance management, and workforce issues.
  • Conduct investigations and resolve employee concerns professionally and effectively.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives that support retention and organizational success.


Performance Management & Leadership Development

  • Design and manage performance management processes, goal-setting frameworks, and employee development programs.
  • Support leadership development, succession planning, and workforce capability building.
  • Identify training and development opportunities that strengthen organizational performance.
  • Partner with leaders to create career development pathways for employees.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Oversee compensation and benefits programs to ensure competitiveness and alignment with business goals.
  • Conduct compensation benchmarking and market analyses.
  • Support annual salary planning, performance review cycles, and incentive programs.
  • Recommend compensation strategies that support attraction and retention objectives.


Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain employee policies, procedures, and handbook documentation.
  • Support employment-related audits, reporting requirements, and legal matters.
  • Partner with external legal counsel and consultants as needed.


Organizational Development & Change Management

  • Assess organizational structures and recommend improvements to support business growth.
  • Lead change management initiatives associated with expansion, workforce growth, and operational improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within Human Resources and across the organization.
  • Develop programs that improve employee engagement, productivity, and retention.


Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Human Resources staff and people leaders.
  • Establish HR best practices and strengthen organizational leadership capabilities.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree and/or SPHR, SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with at least 5 years in a senior HR leadership position.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, engineering, construction, distribution, logistics, or other operationally intensive environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated success supporting organizational growth, workforce expansion, and business transformation initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations, employment law, compensation, talent development, performance management, and organizational design.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and build credibility across all levels of the organization.
