Trauma Medical Director in Thousand Oaks, California

Korn Ferry is partnering with a well-established Level II Trauma Center in Southern California to recruit a Trauma Medical Director. This physician will provide clinical and operational leadership for an established trauma program while maintaining an active Trauma and Acute Care Surgery practice.

The program recently completed ACS verification with zero deficiencies and offers strong hospital support, an experienced surgical team, and the opportunity to advance quality, performance improvement, and future program growth.

Position Highlights

  • Trauma Medical Director leadership role

  • Established Level II Trauma Center

  • Recent ACS verification with zero deficiencies

  • Approximately 1,000 trauma activations annually

  • Approximately 600–700 Acute Care Surgery cases annually

  • Blend of clinical practice and administrative leadership

  • Strong hospital and APP support

  • Opportunity to influence trauma quality, operations, and program development

Clinical Practice

The Trauma Medical Director will maintain an active practice encompassing:

  • Trauma Surgery

  • Acute Care Surgery

  • Surgical Critical Care

  • Trauma ICU management

  • Operative and non-operative trauma care

Team and Schedule

  • Five full-time Trauma/Acute Care Surgeons

  • Additional per diem surgeon support

  • Integrated APP coverage

  • Approximately nine 24-hour shifts per month

  • Dedicated backup coverage from home

  • No traditional clinic-plus-call schedule

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and operational oversight of the trauma program

  • Lead performance improvement, quality, and patient safety initiatives

  • Maintain ACS verification readiness and regulatory compliance

  • Partner with hospital and physician leadership

  • Support physician engagement, mentorship, and team development

  • Contribute to strategic planning and continued program growth

Qualifications

  • Board certification in General Surgery

  • Trauma/Acute Care Surgery and/or Surgical Critical Care training required 

  • California medical licensure obtained 

  • Prior trauma leadership experience preferred

  • Demonstrated interest in quality improvement and program development
