Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Vice President-Advanced Practice Providers provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and professional governance for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) across Henry Ford Health (HFH), including Physician Assistants (PAs) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) such as Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).

This leader is responsible for developing and implementing system-wide strategies that optimize the utilization, engagement, and professional development of APPs to support high-quality patient care, access, and operational performance. The role partners closely with physician leadership, nursing leadership, clinical operations, and human resources to ensure alignment of APP practice models with system priorities, regulatory requirements, and best practices.

Champions a culture of collaboration, clinical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement to maximize the impact of APPs across inpatient, outpatient, procedural, and specialty care settings. This position will report directly to the EVP & CEO Henry Ford Hospital & CEO Henry Ford Medical Group.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership

1.      Develop and execute a system-wide APP strategy aligned with the organization's clinical, operational, and financial goals.

2.      Establish and oversee a governance structure for Advanced Practice Providers across HFH.

3.      Lead workforce planning initiatives to ensure appropriate APP staffing models and care team design.

4.      Identify opportunities to improve access, patient throughput, and care delivery through optimized APP utilization.

5.      Partner with executive leadership to support growth initiatives, new service lines, and acquisitions.

Clinical and Operational Oversight

1.      Standardize APP practice models, scope of practice guidelines, and care delivery frameworks across the system.

2.      Ensure compliance with state regulations, credentialing requirements, and accreditation standards.

3.      Partner with physician and nursing leadership to support team-based care models.

4.      Monitor and improve quality outcomes, productivity, and patient experience metrics related to APP practice.

5.      Lead initiatives to improve clinical integration across hospitals, ambulatory sites, and specialty practices.

Workforce Development

1.      Oversee recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development strategies for APPs.

2.      Establish career pathways, leadership development, and succession planning for APP leaders.

3.      Develop programs that support APP engagement, mentorship, and continuing education.

4.      Promote APP leadership opportunities and representation in system committees and initiatives.

Financial and Performance Management

1.      Collaborate with finance and operations leaders to optimize APP productivity, compensation models, and workforce investments.

2.      Monitor key performance indicators including RVUs, access metrics, quality outcomes, and operational efficiency.

3.      Support cost-effective care delivery through appropriate utilization of APPs in teambased models.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

1.      Serve as the executive advocate for APPs within the organization.

2.      Partner with Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Physician Enterprise leadership, and HR to align workforce strategies.

3.      Represent the organization in regional and national APP leadership forums.

4.      Foster strong relationships with academic institutions and training programs

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

         Master's degree in Nursing, Physician Assistant Studies, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.

         Doctoral degree (DNP, PhD, or equivalent) preferred.

         Ten (10) years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, including significant experience working with or leading Advanced Practice Providers in a complex health system or large medical group.

         Demonstrated success in clinical operations, workforce strategy, and multidisciplinary leadership.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

         Licensure/certification as a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, CRNA, or other advanced practice discipline preferred but not required.
