Job description

Director of Nursing Orthopedic & Spine Surgery Center

Location: Orange County, CA Type: Direct Placement | Full-Time Presented by: Alura Workforce Solutions

About the Organization

This is a well-established, physician-led orthopedic and spine surgery center in the heart of Orange County—recognized as one of the premier outpatient surgical destinations in Southern California. The practice is built around a singular commitment: restoring the physician-patient relationship through innovative, compassionate, whole-person care.

The surgical team performs a comprehensive range of procedures, including total joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery, spine surgery, and interventional pain management. The environment is high-performing, clinically sophisticated, and deeply team-oriented. This is not a large health system—it is a focused, quality-driven surgical center where leadership is visible, decisions move quickly, and the DON's impact is felt every day.

The Role

The Director of Nursing will serve as the clinical and operational leader for all phases of perioperative nursing care—from pre-operative preparation through PACU discharge. Reporting directly to practice leadership, this is a highly visible role with real authority over clinical standards, staffing, compliance, and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical oversight across pre-operative, operating room, and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU)
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, AAAHC, and OSHA standards
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, evaluation, and scheduling of nursing and perioperative staff
  • Drive quality improvement, infection control, patient safety, and risk management initiatives
  • Develop and manage clinical staffing and supply budgets
  • Maintain sterilization standards and oversee medication and equipment inventory
  • Manage vendor relationships and day-to-day OR operations

What You Bring

  • BSN required; MSN or MHA preferred
  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of OR and/or PACU experience in a surgical setting
  • Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • A collaborative leadership style that earns trust with both clinical staff and physicians

Why This Role

This is a rare opportunity to lead nursing operations at a high-reputation, physician-owned surgical center in one of the most desirable markets in Southern California. If you are a perioperative nurse leader who thrives in a focused, relationship-driven environment—and wants to lead rather than manage up—this is worth a conversation.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
