Job description

The Coney Island YMCA is seeking a Maintenance Worker/Porter who will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including mopping, dusting, and trash removal. The Maintenance Worker/Porter may also be required to perform duties such as window washing, meeting setup, pool cleaning, snow removal, groundskeeping, and other related responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Coney Island YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining the upkeep of the assigned area and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
  • Operate related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Record and report all needed repairs and make repairs as directed.
  • Ensure the Coney Island YMCA building and property are secure during the shift and report any incidents or hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
  • Replace soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
  • May set up furniture and/or rooms for events.
  • Strip and wax floors, also shampoo rugs as needed.
  • Follow standards of DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments.
  • Follow YMCA HousekeepingPolicies and Procedures.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of related experience.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with a basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Understandingof cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  • Obtain YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within one (1) year of attaining the position.
