In return, we'll give you the trust to take risks, the tools to grow, the skills to develop and the support of a company invested in you for the long haul. So, if you want to inspire a brighter work day for everyone, including yourself, you've found a match in Workday, and we hope to be a match for you too.

About the Team

The Developer Platform team is building the foundation for Workday's open developer ecosystem. We design and deliver the platform capabilities, APIs, SDKs, and developer-facing services that enable external developers and partners to build on Workday products-including Peakon, HiredScore, VNDLY, and more. Our mission is to make the platform reliable, extensible, and straightforward for developers to adopt and extend.
Within the team, the UI Platform focuses on the front-end surfaces and developer tooling that power the Workday Developer Portal-the experience developers use to discover, try, and integrate with our platform. We work closely with senior and principal engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to turn platform growth goals into well-scoped, high-quality engineering work. We care deeply about technical craft, give direct and constructive feedback, and celebrate shipping capabilities that developers actually want to use. If you are energized by hands-on UI implementation, improving developer tooling, and growing your craft alongside experienced engineers, you will find a collaborative team that values thoughtful execution and makes the work enjoyable along the way.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer on the Developer Platform team, you will build and improve the front-end surfaces and developer tooling that make up the Workday Developer Portal. You will execute against well-scoped technical work defined in partnership with senior engineers, contribute to shared UI components and build infrastructure, and collaborate across product and engineering teams to ship reliable, easy-to-use experiences for internal and external developers.

In this role, you will:

  • Build and maintain front-end surfaces within the Workday Developer Portal, working within established micro-frontend (MFE) boundaries and shared component patterns.
  • Contribute to developer tooling and build infrastructure-including local dev environments, CI/CD pipelines, linting, and testing setups-that improve velocity and reliability for the broader engineering team.
  • Implement features and fixes against designs and technical direction set by senior and principal engineers, with growing autonomy over implementation details.
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver well-scoped engineering work on schedule.
  • Follow established API governance and engineering best practices, including versioning, backward compatibility, and security standards for public-facing surfaces.
  • Participate in code review, design discussions, and pairing sessions, both giving and receiving feedback to raise the technical bar on the team.
  • Contribute to developer-facing documentation, onboarding flows, and tooling improvements that make the platform easier to adopt and extend.

About You

Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of features or components in production web applications.
  • 4+ years of experience building front-end applications with modern web technologies (for example, TypeScript/JavaScript, React) in a production environment.
  • 4+ years of experience working with REST or GraphQL APIs from the client side, including handling authentication, error states, and data fetching patterns.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Other Qualifications
  • Familiarity with cloud-native environments (for example GCP, AWS, or Azure) and basic operational practices such as logging and monitoring.
  • Growing understanding of developer experience (DX) as a quality bar, with an interest in applying that lens to UI and tooling decisions.
  • Exposure to micro-frontend architecture, shared component libraries, or design systems, and an interest in deepening that expertise.
  • Familiarity with build tooling and CI/CD concepts (for example, Webpack, Vite, GitHub Actions, or similar), with willingness to grow into deeper build infrastructure work.
  • Solid API design fundamentals, including familiarity with REST, GraphQL, and OAuth 2.0/OIDC concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute well-scoped technical work independently, with sound judgment on when to ask for guidance versus proceed.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate across product, engineering, and design teams.
  • Eagerness to learn from senior engineers and grow into greater ownership of architecture and technical direction over time.

The following are advantageous but not required:

  • Exposure to agentic AI capabilities, including LLM-backed services, agent frameworks, or tool-use patterns (e.g., MCP).
  • Familiarity with enterprise HCM, talent, or workforce management domains.
  • Experience working with developer portals, API catalogs, or self-serve onboarding tooling.
  • Background in multi-product or multi-tenant SaaS environments.
  • Interest in developer relations or technical writing, including contributing to docs, guides, or developer-facing content.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we're combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.

Pursuant to applicable Fair Chance law, Workday will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

Workday is an Equal Opportunity Employer including individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.

At Workday, we are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive hiring experience where all candidates can fully demonstrate their skills. If you require assistance or an accommodation at any point, please email accommodations@workday.com.
