ABOUT OUR DISTRICT

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and she is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of educators to partner with her in moving the district toward its goals.

The Syracuse City School District represents 35 schools and programs, including 6 high schools, 6 middle schools, 6 K-8 schools, 13 elementary schools, and 4 alternative education programs, serving approximately 19,000 students Pre-K-12. Of these students, 82.3% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 20.1% are served by the Office of Special Education, and 83% are students of color. 

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator bridges classroom instruction with realworld career experiences by developing, organizing, and facilitating highquality workbased learning opportunities aligned with SCSD's WBL model. The coordinator serves as a liaison among students, educators, families, and industry partners to ensure meaningful and effective career readiness experiences.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development & Facilitation

  • Design, implement, and manage curriculumaligned WBL activities across all CTE pathways in accordance with the SCSD WBL framework.
  • Coordinate monthly career coaching events for grades 9-10.
  • Ensure job shadow participation for at least 80% of students in each pathway.
  • Ensure internship participation for at least 65% of students in each pathway, with duration aligned to industry partner capacity.
  • Manage transportation logistics for all WBL activities, including job shadows, internships, site visits, and college experiences.
  • Maintain a comprehensive WBL calendar with weekly schedules, milestones, and partner commitments.
  • Prepare students, teachers, and employers for WBL activities through orientations, expectations, safety guidance, and learning objectives.
  • Lead worksite visits, including transportation coordination, documentation, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with CTE teachers to plan and execute Fall and Spring advisory committee meetings.

Industry & Community Engagement

  • Build and sustain relationships with business and industry partners to support WBL activities.
  • Maintain an updated directory of partners hosting job shadows, internships, site visits, and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Recruit, register, and manage Career Coaches to support WBL programming.
  • Represent CTE programs at steering committee and partnership council meetings.
  • Assist with coordination of biannual advisory council meetings.

Student & Family Support

  • Provide students with clear expectations and guidance for participating in WBL activities.
  • Collaborate with the College Transition Specialist to support student transitions to collegelevel coursework, including schedule coordination and campus integration.
  • Maintain consistent communication with families regarding WBL opportunities, expectations, and student progress.
  • Participate in districtwide events that support student engagement in CTE, including the CTE Expo and Career Fair.

Program Operations & Compliance

  • Support alignment and maintenance of CTE curriculum, scope, and sequence to ensure relevance and rigor.
  • Assist CTE teachers with lab organization and equipment needs.
  • Track and manage inventory of supplies and materials for WBL activities.
  • Collect and submit required data and reports to NYSED for CTE program compliance.
  • Contribute to marketing and promotion of CTE programs through events and communication channels.
  • Assist teachers and administrators with CTE program approval and reapproval processes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with documentation and submission of NYSED requirements as applicable.
  • CTE WorkBased Learning Coordinators are not school or building administrators and should not be assigned responsibilities that fall under the duties of an Assistant Principal or other administrative support personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the districtlevel CTE team, in coordination with buildinglevel administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Master's Degree in related field preferred
  • New York State teaching Certification and willing to work towards the NYSED Work-Based Learning certification (preferred).
  • Tenured at the secondary level (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with teachers, building administrators and district level administrators in developing and implementing a scientific-based approach to school/District wide reform.
  • Knowledge of the policies, organization and operation of the school system, NYSED regulations and work-based learning requirements.
  • Strong management, interpersonal, and communication skills along with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse community.
  • Ability to establish priorities and multitask.
  • Training and/or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)
  • Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
  • Please note that New York State requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 for certification, and one hired, this proof will be kept on file in the Office of Human Resources.
  • Once offered, you will be required to declare that all previous obligations with an employing school district have been met, and you are not seeking this position with the intent of resigning from a previous commitment in which you have not served.

SALARY/SALARY RANGE

  • The current starting salary for SCSD Teachers is $53,000. With proof of outside, related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $102.50 to the candidate.
