DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a newly constructed Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Metallurgical Furnace (LMF), RH Degasser, & Slab Caster giving candidates a chance to set a new standard for safety quality and production in the steel making industry, not just here in the United States but worldwide.

The Basics:

  • Minimum of 1 year of industrial experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment used for industrial purposes
  • Ability to safely and appropriately operate, power and hand tools, machinery, and mobile equipment
  • Competent in manipulating numbers, quantities, shapes and spaces; able to take simple measurements and perform basic mathematical operations (e.g., addition, subtraction, division, decimals, fractions)
  • Ability to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to work comfortably at heights
  • Basic math and reading comprehension skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Basic computer skills i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint

The Extras:

  • Crane and forklift experience preferred
  • Refractory specific experience preferred
  • Burning & Welding experience preferred

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Under general supervision, the Refractory Team member will perform tearing out and installing of refractory bricks and monolithics in our steelmaking equipment: Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladles, Tundish for continuous caster and vessel for RH Degasser
  • Coordinate and work with mill personnel in maintaining mill production, while operating all equipment needed to complete the job and utilizing necessary safety equipment
  • Perform routine & non-routine maintenance and assists maintenance personnel
  • Reading and interpreting refractory lining drawings; using brick saw and bricklaying equipment to lay brick in ladles, furnaces, tundishes, and RH vessels
  •  Performing plug changes, repairing slide gates, and miscellaneous repair as needed
  • Exemplifying adherence to installation procedures and providing guidance on correct procedures to new hires
  • Performing all types of refractory installation methods including gunnite, pouring, ramming, pumping, ceramic fiber, shotcreting, and/or firebrick installation
  • Cutting, grinding, installing anchors, forming, and pouring
  • Cleaning and preparing ladles, furnaces, tundishes for repair, relining and fabrication
  • Installation of brick and refractory materials into shapes and combinations including keying in brick rings
  • Assisting with post-production tear outs and accurately documenting findings
  • Performing preventive and general maintenance tasks on tools and refractory equipment; documenting the preventative maintenance
  • Performing spare parts and tool inventory count to ensure site specific standards are maintained, completing detailed inventory usage reports at the end of shift

YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work conditions are subject to both inside and outside environmental condition; exposure to extreme heat, elevated noise levels, proximity to moving parts, pinch points, solvents, high heat, high voltage electricity, hot surfaces, sparks, natural gas, oxygen, acetylene, high pressure air and hydraulic lines, sharp edges and tools, electromagnetic fields, and working at elevated heights (atmospheric conditions may require the use of a respirator)
  • Gulf coast region in Calvert, AL
  • Shift work – Rotating 12-hour shifts to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • People with heart pacemakers or any other electronic medical device are strictly prohibited from entering the furnace area. These devices include implanted pacemakers or implantable cardiac defibrillators where the device may be affected.  Individuals identified to potentially work in EMF affected areas should identify the specific device they have as part of a medical history and manufacturer’s recommendations should be followed.
