Responsibilities

This position is an individual contributor role and will be a team member within the international Product Compliance department. This role has the following responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expertise on regulatory, standards and compliance requirements related to products containing connected technologies. Help to raise the overall knowledge in these areas throughout the organization
  • Draft clear, accurate and comprehensive certification plans for new product development to ensure engineering and business teams understand all product compliance requirements for product launches
  • Collaborate closely with relevant internal and external stakeholders to develop product test plans that incorporate relevant compliance requirements
  • Interact directly with external parties, such as government agencies, testing laboratories, and certification bodies to obtain necessary registrations, certifications, and meet other market-entry requirements
  • Prepare technical documentation packages for submission to third parties, ensuring accuracy and meeting project timelines
  • Participate in witness testing as needed internally and with third parties, including troubleshooting and corrective action's needed
  • Monitor and communicate trends that relate to potential standards, regulatory, and compliance changes
  • Develop best practice templates, reports, and processes for continuous improvement as relevant
  • Represent our organization in standards development activities where appropriate
  • Lead discussions on standards interpretation where needed
  • Assist in maintaining certifications by ensuring product modifications are compliant and approved.
  • Provide support to certification and department related activities regardless of product group, such as support during third party audits
  • Ability to travel internationally and/or domestically <5%

Qualifications

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of regulations pertaining to FCC and Industry Canada.
  • Previous experience managing the certification process related to any of the following areas: electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), wireless, telecommunications, and/or other relevant areas
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to actively communicate technical information to audiences of varying experience and discipline
  • Thorough attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of European and international country-specific compliance requirements for connected products
      Direct management of certification submittals and testing with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs),
    • Notified Bodies, test houses and/or other relevant third parties
    • Hands-on experience with relevant compliance testing protocols and equipment
    • New product development design experience on products containing connected technologies

Education and Experience Required:
BSEE, preferably from an ABET accredited program.
This position is available at four different career levels based upon experience, education, etc.:

  • Staff III: Minimum 3 years relevant experience
  • Senior Staff: Minimum 5 years relevant experience
  • Principal I: Minimum 7 years relevant experience
  • Principal II: Minimum 9 years relevant experience
    • MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of experience. PhD may be substituted for up to 4 years of experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
