What is wireless engineering?

Wireless engineering is a specialized field of engineering focused on designing, developing, and maintaining wireless communication systems. This includes technologies such as Wi-Fi, cellular networks, Bluetooth, and satellite communications. Wireless engineers work on hardware, software, and network infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure transmission of data over the air. Their work is essential for enabling mobile devices, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, and modern telecommunication networks.

Are wireless engineers in demand?

Wireless engineers are in high demand due to the ongoing expansion of wireless networks, 5G deployment, and increasing reliance on wireless communication technologies. Employers seek professionals skilled in RF design, network optimization, and related tools, often requiring certifications like CWNP or Cisco Wireless. The role offers strong job growth prospects in telecommunications, technology, and network infrastructure sectors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a wireless engineer?

To thrive as a Wireless Engineer, you need a strong background in electrical engineering, RF design, and network protocols, often supported by a relevant degree and industry certifications like CWNA or CCNA Wireless. Proficiency with wireless planning tools, spectrum analyzers, and network management systems is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help professionals excel in troubleshooting and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These skills ensure reliable wireless network performance, efficient issue resolution, and the ability to meet organizational connectivity needs.

What does a wireless engineer do?

A wireless engineer designs, implements, and maintains wireless communication systems such as Wi-Fi, cellular networks, and radio frequency (RF) systems. They analyze signal coverage, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and often use tools like spectrum analyzers and network simulators, requiring knowledge of protocols, standards, and certifications like Cisco or CompTIA. Their work ensures reliable wireless communication in various environments, including enterprise, telecommunications, and public networks.

How do wireless engineers typically collaborate with other teams during a network deployment project?

Wireless engineers frequently work cross-functionally with network architects, site surveyors, project managers, and field technicians to ensure successful network deployments. They are responsible for translating technical requirements into practical solutions, often coordinating closely with IT and operations teams to integrate wireless infrastructure with existing systems. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as wireless engineers must address site-specific challenges, troubleshoot issues, and ensure that all stakeholders are aligned on project goals and timelines.

How much do wireless engineers make?

Wireless engineers typically earn a median annual salary between $80,000 and $120,000, depending on experience, location, and certifications. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in network design and security can earn higher salaries, often exceeding $130,000 annually.

Job description

Locations: Windsor, CO | Salt Lake City, UT

Position Type: Full-Time

Compensation: Starting at $20.00 โ€“ $25.00 per hour (Depending on Experience) + Per Diem + Weekly Pay!

Are you a proven construction professional who thrives on hard work and isn't afraid of a view? B.H. If you have a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and a desire to build a real career in the booming wireless industry, we want to talk to you.

What's In It For You?

At BHI, we look at each other as family, not merely co-workers who punch the same clock. Our core responsibility is to develop our people and provide for families. We offer an extensive compensation and benefits package designed to reward your hard work:

  • Start at $20.00 to $25.00/hr, scaled directly to your solid labor experience, with reliable Weekly Pay.
  • Paid Per Diem offered per location for days worked.
  • Comprehensive health, vision, dental, and life insurance.
  • 401(k) plan with a company match to help you build for the future.
  • Accrue PTO to spend time with your family and recharge.
  • Learn specialized telecom trades under top industry foremen with clear pathways into leadership.

As a Tower Laborer, you will work as part of an aggressive, goal-oriented field crew installing, maintaining, and upgrading wireless telecommunications structures. This is a highly physical, outdoor role.

  • Assist with ground-level and high-elevation construction tasks, including rigging, structural assembly, and material handling.
  • Safely climb telecommunications towers and structures using specialized fall-protection equipment (must be entirely comfortable working at heights).
  • Utilize power tools, mechanical equipment, and construction rigging efficiently and safely.
  • Assist with civil and site-prep work, including concrete prep, grounding, and trenching when required.
  • Participate actively in daily job-site safety meetings and maintain a proactive attitude toward a zero-incident workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Solid, verifiable experience in heavy labor, general construction, civil excavation, concrete, mechanical trades, framing, or something similar.
  • Must be physically fit, capable of lifting 50+ lbs regularly, and entirely comfortable working at significant heights in various weather conditions.
  • A proactive, professional attitude with high integrity and a strong drive to learn a specialized trade.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, clean driving record, and the ability to pass a standard drug screen and background check.
