Job description

About the Role

The Wine Outlet is hiring a Store Manager to run our Vienna location as an owner-operator. This is not a clock-in, clock-out store job. You run the store like it is yours, because the structure here moves you toward exactly that. At the Wine Outlet, managers share in the profits, make the calls that drive it, and experience the upside based on the storeโ€™s performance against benchmarks.

We built this role for an operator who wants real ownership over outcomes and real upside for delivering them. The right person treats every dollar of margin, every inventory decision, and every customer relationship as their own.

Your Role

You will run the entire P&L for the Vienna store. That includes:

  • Full P&L responsibility for the location, from top line revenue to bottom line profit, implementing the tried and tested Wine Outlet business model.
  • Purchasing and vendor relationships, including the weekly distributor tastings and wine selection process that builds the storeโ€™s inventory, with strong support from the Wine Outletโ€™s network of professionals and mentors.
  • Implementing inventory management, pricing, and merchandising decisions for the floor that work across the model.
  • Local outreach and marketing initiatives.
  • Payroll and staffing, including hiring, scheduling, training, and developing your team.
  • Day-to-day store operations, customer experience, and the overall health of the location.
  • The growth strategy for your store and the execution that delivers it.

With The Wine Outlet, you get all the support you need and the freedom to be the best you can, all of which works to help make you and the store more fun, profitable and rewarding.

Profit Share

This role shares in store profit when performance benchmarks are achieved. The structure rewards operators who grow the business and protect the margin. We keep the details simple here on purpose. Serious candidates who want to understand our trade secrets -- exactly how the profit share and the owner-operator path work โ€“ will hear more during the interview process.

How You Work

This manager does not report up a chain. You run your store. You collaborate with:

  • The other store managers, sharing what works and learning from what works for them.
  • The operations & accounting lead, aligning on the systems and standards that keep every location strong.
  • The marketing lead, connecting your storeโ€™s growth to the broader brand and customer strategy.

You bring the local judgment. They bring the wider context. Together you keep the Vienna store growing.

What We Look For
  • Proven P&L ownership and/or the ability to do so. You have carried real P&L responsibility and you can speak to the decisions behind the wins.
  • Retail or hospitality leadership experience. Great if itโ€™s in wine, beverage, specialty food, or a comparable category, but those with the drive and commitment will be considered.
  • Strong commercial instincts. You understand margin, pricing, and inventory, and you act on that understanding.
  • Genuine leadership. You hire well, develop people, and build a team that wants to perform.
  • An ownerโ€™s mindset. You do not wait to be told. You see what the store needs and you move.
  • You own the good and the bad and lead from the front.
  • Wine knowledge or a real appetite to build it fast. You will run weekly distributor tastings and select what goes on the shelf.
  • Comfort working independently while collaborating openly with peers across the company.
Compensation

Base salary range of $60,000 to $90,000, determined entirely by your experience and enhanced by the performance of the individual store. Strong operators who grow their location earn at the top of the range. Profit share sits on top of salary when benchmarks are met.

Why This Role

Most store manager jobs cap your upside and limit your control. This one does the opposite. You get the authority to run the location your way, the financial responsibility that comes with it, and a direct stake in the profit you create. If you have wanted to run a business without starting one from nothing, this is that opportunity.

How to Apply

Send your resume and a short note. Tell us about a P&L you have owned or how you would own it and what you did or would do to improve it. We want to hear how you think about running a store, not just where you have worked. We care about results and how you achieved them. We are not looking for someone who just checks the boxes and scrapes by.

Come by and check us out, too!
