Title: Senior Systems Engineer - Application Management

Duration: 2+ Years

Location: Eagan, MN - 55123


Description: 

In this challenging role, you will be part of a team of Application Management Engineers (AMEs). This team provides application management services for many of our external flagship products including Firm Central, Concourse, Form Builder and Proview. AMEs serve as the primary point of contact with architects, development groups, data center partners, and other operations teams. Responsibilities include ensuring exceptional application stability and performance, change review and oversight, on-going process and technical improvements, and escalated production incident response for several Legal customer-facing products. You will be involved in on-boarding and ensuring operational readiness and ongoing supportability of new applications and components. You will also partner closely with the Application Services Engineers (ASEs) who provide around-the-clock change execution and incident response for our production and pre-production environments. This position requires some flexibility in work schedule, coverage during second shift (Central Time) and requires carrying a smart phone on a rotating basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • On-boarding of new applications or components into our production and pre-production environments.
  • Ensures operational readiness and ongoing supportability for new applications and components.
  • Partners with development and other support teams to ensure application monitors are in place to provide effective and timely alerts.
  • Creates and maintains well-written documentation, such as deployment procedures and troubleshooting guides.
  • Collaborate with others to analyze, plan and schedule change deployments, upgrades, infrastructure enhancements, maintenance and other activities.
  • Serves as a point of escalation on a rotating basis to assist Application Services team members with incidents and change activities. This includes being part of an on-call rotation.
  • Investigates and summarizes major incidents, and pursues follow ups to improve incident detection and faster resolutions.
  • Applies automation and other improvements to change and incident management activities.
  • Leads projects or initiatives that mentor other members of the team.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 4+ years of related work.
  • Ability to support large, complex, multi-tier web applications using technical skills involving Windows Server, UNIX/Linux, routers, deployment managers, monitoring tools, scripting, HTML, XML, etc.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently work alone and manage a wide variety of tasks.
  • Independence to acquire and maintain technical skills for professional development.
  • Creative problem solving ability.
  • Willingness to assist other team members off-hours with urgent incident and change activities
  • Ability to take ownership of issues / projects and drive to resolution with limited assistance
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • A service-oriented attitude
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence individuals at all levels in the organization
  • Previous work experience in an operations environment is a plus.
