We are a Christian faith-based, non-profit organization with a rich and evolving culture seeking a Senior Director of Finance to assist with the Administration Department.

Hours: 40 hours per week

Location: Administrative Offices, visiting programs/locations as needed.


Position Summary: This role serves as a strategic, detail-oriented, and collaborative financial leader responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations for Wellspring Living. It provides both strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure fiscal integrity, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability. Responsibilities include managing the accounting operation, budgeting processes, financial reporting, grant and fund compliance, audit coordination, internal controls, special projects, and financial planning.

In addition to overseeing high-level financial strategy, this role is responsible for ensuring accurate bookkeeping and day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger oversight, account reconciliations, journal entries, and the integrity of transactional data across all financial systems. The Senior Director of Finance may directly engage in bookkeeping functions when necessary and guides internal staff or external partners responsible for transactional accounting tasks.

The position requires advanced knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and experience in managing diverse funding sources, including government grants. This role is integral to supporting Wellspring Livingโ€™s mission to serve individuals at risk of sexual exploitation by ensuring effective financial stewardship, operational efficiency, and alignment of financial strategy with organizational priorities. It also involves close collaboration with executive leadership to support decision-making, lead forecasting and capital planning efforts, and be responsible for monthly management and board-level financial reporting.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Strategic Financial Leadership & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit financial regulations, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and all applicable state and federal requirements.

  • Collaborate with external auditors, legal counsel, and grant monitors to support audits, regulatory filings, and risk mitigation efforts.

  • Design and implement financial strategies that promote long-term sustainability that align with Wellspring Livingโ€™s mission and strategic objectives.

  • Advise executive leadership and the Board of Directors on financial planning, policy development, and organizational performance to support data-informed decision-making.

Financial Operations & Performance Management

  • Ensure the accurate recording of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and grant-specific allocations.

  • Oversee and perform bookkeeping tasks such as general ledger maintenance, expense categorization, and data entry in accounting systems.

  • Manage reconciliation processes for bank accounts, credit card transactions, and revenue deposits to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • Maintain oversight and timely reconciliations of and between the accounting platformsโ€”including SAGE Intacct, Salesforce, and Bill.comโ€”ensuring proper setup, coding, integration, and functionality.

  • Develop and oversee internal controls, financial policies, and risk management frameworks to safeguard assets and maintain fiscal integrity.

  • Supervise and develop finance staff to ensure effective execution of accounting functions and readiness for future organizational growth.


Financial Leadership & Organizational Strategy

  • Provide financial leadership that aligns with the organizationโ€™s strategic plan, operational goals, and mission.

  • Evaluate and recommend long-term financial policies and business models that support sustainability and program scalability.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for cost efficiency, revenue diversification, and sustainable funding streams.

  • Lead financial readiness efforts for organizational growth, capital campaigns, and program or facility expansion.

  • Contribute to shaping investment strategies, enterprise risk planning, and cross-departmental initiatives as part of the executive leadership team.

  • Support financial communication with the Senior Management Team and the Board of Directors, including the preparation of financial reports, forecasts, and strategic insights.


Grant Accounting & Compliance

  • Prepare monthly federal grant financial reporting and supporting schedules to include subgrant expenditure reporting forms for the calendar year.

  • Maintain schedule of expenditures of federal awards and provide support for the single-audit.

  • Prepare detailed reports on grant-related income, expenses, and budget performance for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure all financial reporting requirements for grants are completed accurately and submitted on time, including reimbursement requests, audit documentation, and funder-specific compliance reports.

  • Stay knowledgeable about changes in accounting standards, grant management regulations, and nonprofit compliance practices to keep the organization informed and prepared.

  • Reconcile grant-related accounts and bank statements, resolving discrepancies and maintaining accurate, audit-ready records for all grant transactions.

  • Monitor grant performance and analyze budget variances, providing financial insights and support to program staff to ensure proper use of funds.

Audit Preparation and Support

  • Assist in preparing financial documentation and schedules required for annual audits, with a focus on grant-funded programs.

  • Ensure accurate and complete audit trails for all financial transactions, including grant-related activities, to support audit readiness.

  • Serve as the primary liaison for auditors, grant-specific external accountants, and the internal finance team to facilitate timely and efficient audit processes.

  • Support the implementation of audit findings and recommendations to strengthen financial compliance and operational practices.


Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead the organization-wide annual budgeting process, including coordination with department heads to develop program budgets and forecasts.

  • Monitor financial performance against budgets, provide variance analysis, and recommend corrective actions, as needed.

  • Support multi-year financial planning efforts aligned with strategic priorities and organizational growth.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Create and develop a finance team structure to support current needs and future growth.

  • Supervise and mentor finance staff or consultants to ensure accuracy, accountability, and performance.

  • Partner with program and administrative teams to build financial literacy and support fiscal responsibility across departments.

Administrative & General Support

  • Respond to financial inquiries from staff, leadership, and external partners.

  • Assist in evaluating and improving accounting systems, processes, and workflows.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the finance function and organization.


Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required; Masterโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. CPA designation is highly preferred.

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills with computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word and Outlook) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs).

  • Minimum 7โ€“10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.

  • Single audit experience is required (per federal requirements for organizations receiving $ 750 K+ in government funding).

  • Expertise in financial systems; experience with SAGE Intacct, Salesforce, and Bill.com preferred.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to lead through change and scale financial systems to support growth.


Position Requirements:
