This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Fitness Attendant is responsible for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and clean wellness environment while supporting members in their fitness journeys. This role includes providing basic equipment instruction, ensuring proper equipment usage, promoting healthy habits, and actively engaging members in available wellness services. A key responsibility of the Fitness Attendant is to promote and sell personal training packages, connecting members with the appropriate fitness professionals based on their goals and needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Greet and engage members and guests with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Provide orientations and instruction on the proper and safe use of fitness equipment.
  • Proactively build relationships with members to understand their goals and promote wellness programs, including YMCA personal training services.
  • Effectively communicate the benefits of personal training and assist members with purchasing training packages.
  • Monitor the wellness floor to ensure a safe environment, proper equipment use, and adherence to YMCA policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wellness center, including sanitizing equipment regularly.
  • Report maintenance or safety issues promptly to supervisor.
  • Respond to member inquiries, resolve minor issues, and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Serve as a positive role model and promote the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Stay current with emergency procedures and respond appropriately to incidents.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings. Maintain current certifications as required for the position.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Health and Wellness Director or other members of the Leadership Staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in customer service, fitness, or sales is preferred.
  • Comfortable engaging in conversations that promote YMCA programs and services.
  • Current fitness certifications applicable to the performed activities.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Enthusiastic about health and wellness and committed to helping others achieve their fitness goals.
