Project Manager โ€“ Lead Custom Steel Fabrication Projects from Concept to Completion

Job Overview:

  • Company: Zak Welding & Custom Work, LLC.
  • Salary/Pay Rate: $90,000 - $110,000+ per year (based on experience).
  • Location: Detroit, MI (Onsite).
  • Job/Employment Type: Full Time.
  • Travel: 10% (Local site visits).
  • Project Scope: Structural & Misc. Steel (Commercial, Industrial, Government or Federal)
  • Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: None Required.

The Opportunity: You will take full ownership of diverse commercial and industrial projects, acting as the critical link between our clients and the fabrication shop. This role offers the unique opportunity to manage high-stakes, custom builds where your leadership directly influences the craftsmanship and success of every delivery.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Orchestrate the entire project lifecycle from initial kickoff through final delivery and client sign-off.
  • Translate complex blueprints and technical specifications into actionable workflows for the fabrication team.
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to ensure material deliveries align with aggressive project timelines.
  • Monitor project budgets and labor costs to maintain profitability while identifying efficiency improvements.
  • Resolve real-time logistical challenges and scope changes to keep production schedules on track.
  • Conduct on-site inspections to verify that installations meet both safety standards and client expectations.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of project management experience specific to welding, steel erection, or metal fabrication.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong proficiency in project tracking software, Excel, and digital scheduling tools.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple high-priority projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Deep technical understanding of diverse welding processes and metal shop capabilities.
  • Experience coordinating directly with government or federal agencies on specialized builds.
