Can you make $300,000 as a welder?

Welders can potentially earn $300,000 annually with extensive experience, specialized skills, high-demand certifications, and working in high-paying industries such as oil and gas or aerospace. Such earnings typically require working overtime, in remote locations, or holding supervisory or highly skilled roles. • Collaborate with project managers, quality, and production teams to meet schedule, cost, and quality targets
  • Evaluate and select welding consumables, equipment, and processes to optimize performance and efficiency

  • Maintain and improve welding quality documentation and inspection procedures
  • Coordinate with third-party inspectors and client representatives during weld inspections as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
  • 3+ years of welding engineering experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial setting
  • Working knowledge of structural and pressure-related welding codes (AWS D1.1, ASME IX, API 1104, or equivalent)

  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment, and weld distortion control
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred; Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) a plus
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and weld symbols
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Experience in a job-shop or custom fabrication environment
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification
