Job description

Description

We're small-town techies and Kansans at heart, committed to helping our communities thrive through fast, reliable internet. We didn't start broadband to build a business-we built a business to bring broadband to Kansans. When you call us, you'll reach a real, local person who cares. We offer an inspiring environment with meaningful work, where employees are encouraged to think creatively and deliver exceptional service. As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Wireless Technician to join our team.

A Day in the Life of a Wireless Technician

A typical day as a Wireless Technician includes delivering wireless solutions to customers by completing residential and business installations, troubleshooting connection issues, and making repairs. You will handle installations and repairs independently, installing drops from the service terminal to the home or business while providing a professional, friendly, and positive customer experience.

Location

This position will support the expansion of IdeaTek Wireless services in the Central Kansas Region.

What You'll Do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver end-to-end wireless solutions to residential and business customers.
  • Install, repair, and troubleshoot customer connection issues and VOIP services independently.
  • Provide an exceptional in-home and business experience by being friendly, patient, efficient, and clearly communicating technical information regarding WTTP service, gateways, and WiFi.
  • Install drops from the service terminal to the home or business.
  • Work effectively in both underground and aerial environments, including climbing ladders and operating bucket trucks.
  • Demonstrate urgency, accountability, and follow-through on all tasks.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of wireless networks and continuously expand your technical skills.

What We're Looking For

To be considered for this role, you'll need the following required qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in field-based technical role (e.g., installer, electrician, HVAC, or other low voltage work)
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a Class A/B CDL license.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (hot and cold)
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience or ability to work in underground and aerial plants, including climbing ladders and operating bucket trucks.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Applications, and collaborative software.

What Will Help You Stand Out

  • Prior experience in the telecommunications industry.

Desired Attributes
Beyond qualifications, these attributes set our strongest team members apart:

  • Eager to learn and continuously develop your skills and knowledge.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency, and the ability to see tasks through to completion.
  • Capable of working independently while also contributing positively to a team.
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and enjoy tackling new challenges.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to find effective solutions.

Why Join IdeaTek?

  • Free coaching and counseling for employees and families

  • A culture that values results, effort, and integrity
