Are you passionate about basketball and making a positive impact on young athletes? Join our team at the Beaverton YMCA, one of the premier basketball facilities in Oregon, as a Competitive Basketball Coach for our Spring 2026 season.


This role is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about player development, team performance, and building confidence in young athletes through structured, high-level training and competition. This is a seasonal position with the potential to grow into a permanent part-time or full-time role.


Season Details
  • Season Dates: August 19th - November 8th, 2026
  • Age Groups: 8-18 years old
  • Program Type: Competitive league, clinics, and sports performance training
  • Travel: Teams may travel for tournaments throughout Oregon and Washington
Schedule & Commitment


Practices (September 1st - November 8th, 2026)

  • Tuesdays, Thursdays & Wednesdays
  • 90-minute sessions at 5:00 PM, 6:30 PM, or 8:00 PM
  • Location: Beaverton YMCA

Games (September 19th -November 8th, 2026)

  • Saturdays and Sundays between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (game times vary)
  • Up to five games per team each weekend
  • Weekend availability is required
  • Location: Various locations throughout the Portland metro area, including Salem, Seaside, and Seattle
Key Responsibilities
  • Coach and develop youth athletes in a competitive basketball environment
  • Teach advanced basketball fundamentals, game strategies, and performance skills
  • Support athletes in achieving individual and team performance goals
  • Foster a positive, disciplined, and team-oriented culture
  • Build strong relationships with players and parents
  • Physical ability to demonstrate skills and move actively on the court
  • Arrive early to set up and prepare courts for training and games
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, families, and participants
  • Attend required staff meetings
Qualifications
  • Previous basketball playing and/or coaching experience preferred, with a minimum of varsity high school playing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, systems, and game strategy
  • Experience working with youth athletes in a competitive setting preferred
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within and outside of the Portland Metro are
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain
  • Must pass YMCA background check
