Position Summary:
The Events Manager will develop and implement the overall strategy, logistics, and image of all organizational events for the Maryland SPCA. This role is responsible for planning, managing, and executing events that are in alignment with organizational needs and standards. Responsibilities include working with stakeholders to develop and execute annual goals; developing event and campaign strategies; developing and monitoring budgets; cultivating vendor relationships; negotiating contracts; and communicating results with stakeholders. The Events Manager is responsible for the execution of all major fundraising events and overseeing the execution of small annual awareness campaigns and third-party events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Hire and manage event staff; create staff schedules to ensure maximum productivity
  • Create standard operating procedures and training protocols for events
  • Work with stakeholders to develop and manage organizational event goals and objectives
  • Serve as a liaison between stakeholders to help manage competing needs
  • Oversee major annual fundraising events working closely with event staff, the development team, marketing and communications team, outside event planners and other stakeholders
  • Oversee the planning and execution of smaller awareness events including the Holiday Pet Photos, National Dog Day, and other quarterly events
  • Conduct event briefings; solicit questions and feedback and make data-guided decisions
  • Conduct post-event evaluations and gather feedback to improve future events
  • Evaluate new event opportunities, including third party requests
  • Oversee the planning and execution of small, third party, and employee engagement events including fundraising, adoption, and volunteer/foster recruitment events (e.g., restaurant trivia nights, community fairs, farmer’s markets, World Pet Expo etc.)
  • Determine appropriate venues, and types of events in collaboration with the leadership team to maximize annual inter-departmental goals
  • Oversees completion of follow-up reports as appropriate to each venue and ensures that all appropriate data is entered into the database in a timely manner
  • Review existing event partners and locations and coordinate with leadership to evaluate and track ability to retain partners and increase community footprint
  • Help replace ineffective events or locations with new opportunities
  • Plan and execute special projects from initiation to completion, within budget
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and deliver project objectives
  • Keep detailed records
  • Communicate with the CC amp; A director, event staff, and other departments regarding events and needs of the department
  • Prepare and present reports on outcomes as needed
  • Professionally and independently handle customer complaints/issues
  • Support finance and administration team in coordinating rentals of our facilities for non-MD SPCA events

Qualifications:
  • Two to four years of event management or related project management experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish confidence with stakeholders
  • High level of organization, attention to detail and ability to be self-motivated
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with CRMs
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
  • Committed to and enthusiastic about the mission, values, programs, and services of the Maryland SPCA
  • Possess current Maryland driver's license, driving insurance, and safe driving history required
  • Have a flexible schedule or the ability to flex hours to accommodate weekend events and late-night events
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent sitting, with some standing, walking, bending, and reaching

Working Conditions:
