Job description

Qualifications:

  1. Ability to speak, read, write and follow written and oral instructions.
  2. Be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and deal with messes and spills.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


Reports To: Head Custodian


Job Goal: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to

learn, play and develop.


Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times.
  2. Shovels, plows, and /or sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate.
  3. Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
  4. Raises the United States flag at or before 8 a.m. on each school day and lowers it at or after 3:30p.m.
  5. Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
  6. Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it.
  7. Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  8. Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary.
  9. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
  10. Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
  11. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
  12. Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of.
  13. Reports major repairs needed promptly to the building custodial service director.
  14. Reports immediately to the building custodial service director any damage to school property.
  15. Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the building custodial service director.
  16. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
  17. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the building custodial service director.
  18. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
  19. Makes a floor-by-floor and door-by-door check of the building during the nightly work assignment.
  20. Checks doors on administrative offices at least twice each night to be sure that they are locked.
  21. Notifies police, fire department or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention.
  22. Maintains a record of any untoward incident occurring during the work assignment.
  23. Shall perform to the best of his ability, all duties assigned to them.


Terms of Employment: Ten, eleven or twelve month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.


Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boardโ€™s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
