Job description

Position Overview

The Hospice Weekend Supervisor is responsible for overseeing nursing operations across Homecare and Inpatient Hospice (IEHH/Hospice House) during weekend hours. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care through effective coordination of services, staffing oversight, and clinical leadership. The Weekend Supervisor serves as a key resource for clinical staff, supports admissions, and facilitates continuity of care. This position also provides direct supervision to Hospice House Aides.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Oversight

  • Provide clinical oversight for hospice services in both Homecare and Hospice House settings during weekends
  • Serve as the primary clinical resource for nursing staff, addressing complex patient care needs and concerns
  • Ensure delivery of compassionate, high-quality, and compliant hospice care

Staffing & Operations

  • Coordinate and manage weekend staffing to ensure adequate coverage across all service areas
  • Make real-time staffing adjustments in response to patient needs and census changes
  • Support team communication and maintain operational continuity across shifts

Admissions & Coordination of Care

  • Oversee and/or assist with weekend hospice admissions, ensuring timely and appropriate patient placement
  • Collaborate with providers, intake staff, and interdisciplinary team members to facilitate seamless transitions into care
  • Promote coordination across disciplines to ensure individualized care plans are implemented and updated

Supervision of Hospice House Aides

  • Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to Hospice House Aides
  • Oversee the Hospice House Aide hiring in conjunction with the IEHH Clinical Administrator and Human Resources
  • Monitor performance, ensure adherence to care standards, and provide feedback as needed
  • Serve as a resource for training and reinforcing best practices
  • Collaborate with the IEHH Clinical Administrator and Director of Patient Care Services to ensure consistent supervisory practices.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with hospice regulations, policies, and standards of care
  • Promote patient safety and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support documentation accuracy and timely completion of clinical records

Provides direct patient care in times of high acuity or due to staffing gaps.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  2. Current California RN license.
  3. At least three (3) years of experience as a professional nurse.
  4. Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
  5. Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  6. Experience working effectively with an interdisciplinary team
  7. Valid driver’s license, proof of acceptable automobile insurance coverage, and reliable transportation.
  8. Excellent computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prior nursing management/leadership experience.
  2. BSN or MSN degree
  3. At least one (1) year of hospice or palliative care experience.
  4. CHPN certification.

Schedule Requirements

  • Regular Saturdays and Sundays
  • Flexibility to support operational needs outside of scheduled shifts
