What are 'Weekend Property' jobs?

Weekend Property jobs typically refer to roles focused on managing, maintaining, or overseeing properties during the weekends. These positions may include tasks such as property management, maintenance, security, showings for potential renters or buyers, or caretaking. Weekend Property jobs are ideal for individuals seeking part-time work or supplemental income and usually require availability on Saturdays and Sundays. They often appeal to those with strong organizational and customer service skills, as well as a flexible schedule.

What is the difference between Weekend Property vs Weekend Property Manager?

Weekend Property typically refers to the actual properties listed for rent or sale, focusing on listings and client interactions. In contrast, a Weekend Property Manager is responsible for overseeing property operations, managing tenants, and coordinating maintenance. While both roles are connected to real estate, the property is the asset, and the manager handles its day-to-day management.

What are some unique challenges faced by weekend property managers, and how can they prepare for them?

Weekend property managers often handle urgent issues such as last-minute maintenance requests, guest check-ins and check-outs, and unexpected emergencies when other staff may not be available. Being proactive with communication, having a reliable list of on-call vendors, and maintaining clear protocols for guest inquiries are essential for success in this role. Additionally, strong organizational skills help manage overlapping tasks and ensure a smooth experience for both tenants and property owners during busy weekends.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Property Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Property Manager, you need knowledge of property management principles, basic maintenance, and a high school diploma or equivalent, with some roles preferring prior experience or certifications. Familiarity with property management software (like Yardi or AppFolio), scheduling tools, and basic accounting systems is typically required. Strong customer service, conflict resolution, and organizational skills help you handle tenant needs and coordinate maintenance efficiently. These abilities are crucial for ensuring smooth property operations, tenant satisfaction, and timely response to issues during weekend shifts.

Job description

#2216

Our kind and discreet Bay Area-based private client is seeking a capable Property & House Manager to support seamless operations and maintenance across multiple homes. The portfolio includes a diverse range of residences across the Bay Area, from urban homes to coastal retreats. You will serve as a true right hand to the Director of Properties, working across all residences to address and swiftly resolve any needs that arise.

The ideal candidate is a kind, warm, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys working both independently and collaboratively, and is comfortable balancing day-to-day care with vendor coordination and project management. This role suits a candidate with a true "service heart" who is willing to roll up their sleeves and do everything from preparing a home for a beautiful event to climbing a ladder to clean out a gutter when needed. You will enjoy job satisfaction, stability, a highly collaborative team, and the chance to work for some of the nicest principals in the area.

This individual reports directly to the Director of Properties and the principals.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct walk-throughs, inspections, and property checks, interior and exterior
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and monitor HVAC, solar, pools, alarm systems, and more
  • Manage household inventory, manuals, and vendor records
  • Keep homes always "guest ready" and assist with occasional event set up and breakdown
  • Provide hands-on, service-forward support with anything the principals need. Do the dishes if needed, anyone on this team will
  • Assist with light maintenance needs such as troubleshooting issues, switching out lightbulbs, and unclogging a sink
  • Schedule and manage vendors for repairs and projects
  • Communicate updates clearly to the manager and principals
  • Drive between multiple Bay Area properties, including SF, Palo Alto, Woodside, and coastal locations
  • Handle administrative tasks in MS Office, attend all meetings, and work closely with the property team and the Family Office
  • Collaborate with the Director of Properties on special projects, big or small

Requirements:

  • 5-10+ years of experience in house or property management, hospitality, or a related field, with private estate experience a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Systems-minded with a clear, process-oriented approach
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to read the room and adjust tone and style
  • Calm, solutions-oriented approach to challenging situations
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Tech-savvy with smart home systems and basic office tools, including calendar, email, text, MS Suite, and Outlook
  • No task too big or too small mentality, understanding that everyone rows the boat together for the greater good
  • Comfortable lifting up to 40 lbs and accessing attics, basements, and roofs
  • Handy with basic repair skills and familiar with household and property systems and set up
  • COVID vaccination required
  • Not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get a little dirty
  • Must be dog friendly!

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with some flexibility to work after hours and weekends when needed

Compensation: $150k+ DOE plus excellent benefits and PTO

Location: San Francisco Bay Area Peninsula and surrounding area
