About the role.

Supervisor for McCain's Corporate Microbiology Laboratory in Appleton, Wisconsin. The supervisor will oversee all laboratory functions as well as conduct testing in the laboratory. The role will be responsible for providing leadership and technical expertise for environmental monitoring, food product and ingredient microbiological testing. This individual will also support food safety projects and initiatives and work with the other North America microbiology laboratories. The position requires strong communication skills, knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices, and proficiency with data analysis.

What you'll be doing.

  • Own, lead, and support all Appleton McCain Foods Microbiology Laboratory operations. Requires strong leadership, management and communication skills.
  • Oversee all shifts, requires flexibility in schedule to provide support to off-shifts, weekend and holiday operations.
  • Identify, source, and facilitate training for Laboratory Safety and Testing programs and methods.
  • Manage daily laboratory activities prioritizing tasks as necessary to ensure timely completion of testing.
  • Accountable for laboratory facility, supplies and equipment maintenance and upkeep. Includes managing outside contractors and vendors, calibrations and cleaning schedules.
  • Liaise and provide technical and plant operational support for internal customers; addressing requests, concerns, reports, and corrective action solutions.
  • Manage/perform verification checks and proficiency testing programs.
  • Develop SOPs and laboratory programs including Safety, Good Laboratory Practices, Laboratory Manual and Accreditation.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, technical expertise, guidance, and problem-solving support to auxiliary McCain plant micro labs. Examples include:
  • Onboarding and refresher training
  • New equipment, technology, and methodology assessments
  • Out of specification investigation, data trending, validation/verification testing.
  • Annual laboratory audits
  • Lead the North American Regional Environmental monitoring program as the Subject matter expert.
  • Develop and manage the plant reporting and trending tools
  • Provide cumulative business reports, updates and key lessons learned sharing for continuous improvement
  • Drive Corrective action and preventative actions
  • Research and calibrate with external industry groups and technical resources to ensure we maintain pace or exceed industry expectations.
  • Overall continuous improvement of the programs
  • Complete special projects/tasks and design studies as assigned by Regional Food Safety Manager.
  • Lead role in current LIMS implementation and roll out to North America region.
  • Perform data analysis, review and interpretation, and develop reports.

What you'll need to be successful.

  • Preferred 3 years of experience in Food Industry with 2 years of experience in Supervisory position.
  • In-depth knowledge of microbiological testing and operational aspects of a microbiology laboratory.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in the RTE Environmental Monitoring Programs (sampling, data analysis, trending, reporting, root cause analysis, etc.)
  • Proficient in problem solving techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with drive and ambition work.
  • Project management experience. This includes planning, scheduling and coordinating teams and activities to completion.
  • Ability to work and interact effectively with all levels in the organization including Plant employees, Peers, and Senior Leaders
  • Ability to liaise with external laboratories, equipment manufacturers, and consultants.
  • Application of science-based data in decision making.

Compensation Package: $65,500 - $87,400.00 . USD annually + Bonus eligibility
