Job description

Packer - 1st Shift

Utz Quality Foods is looking to grow our loyal, career driven, and customer focused team and is currently recruiting for a Packer - 1st shift to work from our manufacturing facility located in Goodyear, AZ. The Packer is responsible for inspecting and packing quality products into boxes and cartons in a team atmosphere with direct oversight of their individual packaging station. During periods of sanitation, the Packer is responsible for participating in all sanitation activities in order to maintain, clean, and safeguard equipment and facilities used for the processing and packaging of food products.

Shift hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, with some Saturdays as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Packs bags and/or barrels of product into cartons and/or cases. Assembles cartons, applies stickers, and packs cases according to case specifications while verifying the package quality of finished product.
  • Inspects quality of product and product packages and alerts machine operator or shift supervisor of any problems. Removes uncooked or undesirable product while packing. Examines seasoning on product after product is packaged. Matches product codes for product being packaged. Verifies the weight of packaged product.
  • Repacks product merchandise into cartons/cases if needed.
  • Loads boxes of packaged product onto skids.
  • Gives lunch and work breaks.
  • Uses compressed air tools and hand cleaning to clean packaging lines and transfer belts. Uses mild to moderate chemicals and spray cleaners. Uses a cloth to wipe down equipment.
  • Supports the training of new Packers.
  • Performs other tasks which will assist the packaging flow operation such as but not limited to: Places stickers on product items. Prepares boxes to be packed. Lines cans. Hand-picks product.
  • Requires working proactively in a cross-functional team with diverse groups of people.
  • Works with management and fellow associates to ensure Food Safety programs and trainings are followed.
  • Reports food, office, or operational safety problems to a supervisor or manager for initiating action.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that will impact and support the overall outcome of the company and department objectives.
  • Responsible for quality and food safety tasks for their position.

  • Requires basic reading and math skills.
  • Requires knowledge of product quality and basic operations acquired through training.
  • Ability to communicate production issues to fellow co-workers and supervision.
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to perform constant and repetitive motion in a physically demanding position.
