Fleet Manager / Driver Manager

Volume Transportation is seeking a motivated, organized, and high-energy Fleet Manager / Driver Manager to oversee a fleet of professional drivers and equipment while ensuring safe, compliant, and productive operations. This is a fast-paced operations role for someone who thrives on communication, problem-solving, and leadership in a trucking environment.

Our Fleet Managers play a critical role in supporting drivers, meeting customer service expectations, improving productivity, and helping Volume achieve its mission of being the best place to work while operating safely, compliantly, and profitably.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support an assigned fleet of drivers and equipment to maximize safety, service, and productivity
  • Maintain regular communication with drivers regarding dispatch, routing, customer expectations, and operational updates
  • Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) and ensure drivers remain compliant with FMCSA regulations
  • Track and manage driver performance including:
    • On-time service
    • Mileage productivity
    • Fuel efficiency / MPG
    • Out-of-route events
    • Service failures
    • Safety and compliance metrics
  • Conduct check calls and monitor truck progress throughout the day using telematics and transportation management software
  • Communicate proactively with customers, drivers, planners, maintenance, and internal departments to resolve service issues quickly
  • Manage dispatch execution to ensure loads are assigned, communicated, and updated accurately
  • Investigate and document service failures, delays, late deliveries, and operational exceptions
  • Coordinate with planning and operations teams to improve fleet utilization and customer service
  • Monitor satellite messages, driver communication, and operational alerts in real time
  • Ensure layovers, delays, and operational disruptions are communicated across shifts
  • Coach and develop drivers to improve safety, compliance, communication, and performance
  • Assist in driver retention by building strong working relationships and creating a positive driver experience
  • Support after-hours or weekend operations as needed


What We’re Looking For

  • Strong understanding of trucking operations, dispatch, logistics, and fleet management
  • Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to handle upset customers and difficult operational situations professionally
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Comfortable using transportation software, GPS/telematics, and computer systems

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1+ year experience in one of the following preferred:
    • Fleet management / dispatch
    • Trucking operations
    • Logistics / supply chain
    • Customer service in transportation
    • CDL driving experience
  • Computer literacy required
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills required


Preferred Experience (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with Motive, McLeod, ELD systems, GPS/telematics, or transportation management systems
  • Prior experience managing drivers in an asset-based trucking environment
  • Familiarity with fleet KPIs such as on-time service, MPG, utilization, and driver productivity
