About the unit

7 North is a 39-bed Medical Surgical GI/GU unit located in Butterworth Hospital. This unit is known for its outstanding teamwork and welcoming atmosphere! At 7 North opportunities to learn and grow never stop due to the variety in patient population, this unit is considered a medical/surgical unit but specializes in the care of urology and surgical oncology post-operative patients as well as those with gastrointestinal diagnoses. This team stands out as being experts in nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters and urologic care, and managing the care of wounds, ostomies, tubes and drains. Examples of surgeries that may take place on 7 North include: Nephrectomy; Whipple; Cholecystectomy; Pancreatectomy; kidney donor.

Scope of work

Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA. This includes ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Associates in Nursing Required

  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years

  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required within 60 days

  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
