Job description


Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is building the next generation of cloud technologies that operate at massive scale. Our customers run some of the world's most demanding workloads, and our network products form the foundation of OCI's rapidly expanding global cloud footprint.
The Network Products Engineering organization defines, develops, qualifies, and delivers the next generation of networking products that power OCI data centers worldwide. We partner closely with hardware vendors, software engineering, network engineering, operations, supply chain, finance, and product organizations to deliver industry-leading networking solutions.
We are seeking a Lead Principal Network Developer (IC5) to provide technical leadership across Network Products Engineering. This senior individual contributor will define architectural vision, drive product strategy, influence industry partners, and ensure OCI's network products meet the performance, reliability, scalability, and operational standards required to support one of the world's largest cloud infrastructures.
Success in this role requires acting as a technical authority and building strong partnerships across Network Engineering, Network Operations, Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance, and Product Management. This leader must be comfortable driving alignment and delivering results through influence across organizations without direct authority.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Network Design, Development, and Validation:
-Proactively consults on the design across internal teams to determine feasibility and development of the most advanced network fabric and systems to support large-scale enterprise, data center, or cloud-based networking environments, driving strategic technological advancements.
-Oversees the validation of production network and ensures scaling strategies are optimized, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and organizational impact.
-Influences the network solution and architecture design/validation process, providing industry-leading insights and validation.
-Anticipates and mitigates highly complex, critical risks in network design prior to deployment, developing strategic recommendations that ensure future-proof solutions.
-Leads high-level collaborations with vendors and cross functional internal groups (e.g., quality assurance) to ensure alignment with comprehensive firmware/software, complex network configuration validation and resolution of critical bugs, impacting overall product reliability.
-Designs playbooks for highly complex issues with the widest blast radius related to network areas.
-Leads the design and optimization of network processes to drive efficiency.
Automation and Scripting:
-Leads the development and maintenance of the most advanced automation frameworks for testing and operations, driving significant efficiency improvements across the organization.
-Pioneers the automation of critical network tasks, including production and lab environments and drives optimization of repetitive support functions to significantly enhance processes.
-Spearheads the creation and customization of highly complex dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms, proactively ensuring network health and reliability.
-Leads the development and enhancement of the most advanced scripts driving automation of tasks across multiple teams and business units, driving organizational efficiency.
-Architects and scales infrastructure pipelines, configuration items, defining Playbooks and organizing resources.
-Leads cross-functional efforts to extend or evolve tools that enable the scalable launch of new product functionality.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
-Updates and improves existing test cases and the strategic development of new test cases, and comprehensive test strategies, to ensure network integrity across the organization.
-Acts as the foremost technical leader for test practices and strategies, providing industry-leading guidance to develop robust testing protocols.
-Spearheads the implementation of new approaches to improve break-fix validation and post-event root cause analysis (RCA), ensuring resolution of issues and integration of lessons learned across the organization.
-Leads executive change management review board process.
-Drives the development of standardized qualification processes across teams (e.g., vendors, product teams, internal network qualification, quality assurance) to validate systems and environments through pre-production testing, and ensure compliance prior to deployment.
-Meets with auditor to provide Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) data, answer questions, and provide walk-throughs, performing internal auditing based on team expectations.
Monitoring and Reliability:
-Leads the development of new dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to monitor network health, including defining metrics, trends, and thresholds to ensure service level objectives (SLOs).
-Leads the development and customization of the most advanced monitoring and alerting systems and the enhancement of the detection and diagnosis of network anomalies.
-Provides technical expertise on critical escalations during incident response.
-Formalizes practices for issue handoff, accountability, and closure, and responds to internal and external stakeholders when needed.
-Pioneers the development and continuous enhancement of innovative tools and solutions for frontline support teams, driving efficiencies in responding to network failure conditions.
Cross-Team Collaboration and Leadership:
-Partners with project/program managers to ensure the achievement of critical test and deployment milestones, aligning projects with overarching organizational strategies.
-Provides expert technical and non-technical mentorship cross-functionally, and industry-leading subject matter expertise to the team, driving technical excellence and innovation across functions.
-Drives high-visibility incident response cases and leads the delivery of root cause analysis (RCA) results, during major technical incidents.
-Collaborates with cross-functional teams to align roadmaps across projects and lead the development of network roadmap, to support strategic objectives.
-Oversees high-level collaboration with vendors and internal teams, ensuring adherence to networking standards, proactively identifying and resolving areas of misalignment to enhance overall network integrity.
Performance and Capacity Management:
-Analyzes network performance and service metrics (e.g., latency, throughput, packet loss) to identify network efficiency issues and designs and architects capacity to meet future demand, working with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements for anticipated future needs.
-Predicts future network usage patterns and capacity needs to ensure the infrastructure can support anticipated growth, writing design and white papers to make change within organization.

Fosters partnerships with key business leaders, stakeholders, and/or customers, identifying opportunities for expanding partnerships and promoting long-term organizational success. Champions transparency and inclusivity by actively seeking, listening to, and incorporating diverse perspectives.
Problem Solving:
-Leads specialized, advanced problem-solving efforts, serving as an escalation point for complex issues. Guides others to leverage innovative data-driven techniques to address ambiguous or novel issues, identify root causes, and drives the implementation of solutions that prevent future issues.
Continuous Learning:
-Leverages deep industry knowledge and expertise to serve as a thought leader within the organization. Contributes to the advancement of the field or industry through thought leadership (e.g., conference presentations, white papers, research contributions). Maintains and evolves expertise in relevant areas by proactively monitoring emerging trends, technologies, and industry standards, ensuring the organization remains current with best practices. Champions continuous learning and knowledge sharing, promoting professional development across teams. Applies new knowledge to drive advancement and mentors others to do the same.
Continuous Improvement:
-Develops innovative solutions and drives the implementation of ideas that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of processes, protocols, and workflows across the organization. Evaluates effectiveness of updated approaches and methods for continued improvement to enhance efficiencies and ensure changes align with organizational goals. Designs and develops metrics to measure success of improvement initiatives.
Performance and Development:
-Serves as a subject matter expert regarding talent needs and organizational talent strategy. Imparts leadership and expert knowledge throughout the talent development pipeline including candidate interviews, candidate assessment, and hiring decisions, ensuring alignment with organizational talent strategy.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $126,200 to $264,100 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
