Job description

The 2nd Shift Lead will oversee daily operations in the Tool & Die CNC Machine Shop to ensure production goals, quality standards, and safety procedures are consistently met. This hands-on leadership role involves coordinating team activities, setting priorities, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining a productive workflow across machining, grinding, and toolmaking areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the activities of 2nd shift CNC machinists, toolmakers, and support staff.

  • Set daily production priorities in alignment with department schedules and customer deadlines.

  • Ensure all parts meet quality specifications and tolerances through routine checks and inspections.

  • Train and mentor team members in machining techniques, setup procedures, and safety protocols.

  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and maintenance staff to resolve tooling or equipment issues.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, production reports, and quality records.

  • Monitor inventory of raw materials, tooling, and consumables; report shortages or maintenance needs.

  • Promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company and OSHA standards.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to efficiency, quality, and team performance.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in CNC machining, tool and die making, or precision manufacturing.

  • 2+ years of leadership or lead experience in a machining environment.

  • Strong understanding of CNC machine operations, G&M code, tooling setup, and blueprint reading.

  • Ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) and interpret GD&T.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
