Job description

Position Summary

The Manager of Logistics Operations is a strategic transportation leader responsible for carrier management, freight cost optimization, transportation compliance and continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain. The role partners closely with cross-functional teams to develop transportation strategies, manage key carrier relationships, improve service performance and drive operational efficiency while overseeing logistics KPIs and spend analysis.

  • 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM PST
  • Monday-Friday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Modernize and maintain agreements for asset-based carriers and brokers including hiring policies, responsibilities, recordkeeping and claims management.
  • Ensure carrier and vendor compliance by validating onboarding requirements, maintaining documentation (insurance, certifications), and approving new transportation partners.
  • Own carrier relationships for transportation exceeding $250K.
  • Serve as final approval authority on carrier selection and contract terms.
  • Oversee transportation claims and ensure timely resolution.
  • Develop and implement new transportation policies in response to evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Act as an escalation point for major service failures and lead root cause analysis on recurring issues.
  • Establish and standardize pricing structures across all Suja-managed freight.
  • Partner with Logistics leadership to evaluate network design and route-to-market strategies.
  • Own the adoption and continuous improvement of the Transportation Management System (TMS), ensuring alignment with operational processes, data accuracy, and cross-functional integration.
  • Serve as a transportation subject matter expert for Procurement, Finance, Operations, Customer Solutions, and Warehouse teams.
  • Influence transportation decisions across multiple functional areas through policy development and operational standards.
  • Lead implementation of transportation-focused continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on weekly KPIs related to service performance and transportation costs.
  • Prepare monthly spend analysis, detailing costs by PO and SO.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification preferred.

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in logistics, transportation management or supply chain operations.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong, up to date knowledge of domestic shipping regulations and industry challenges.
  • CPG and cold chain experience a plus.
  • Understandking of food safety, regulatory guidelines for warehouse/transport settings a plus.

Knowledge

  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite – especially Excel, Outlook & Internet applications required.
  • Proficiency in logistics software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, TMS systems.

Language Skills

  • Excellent professional oral, written and presentation communication skills required.

  • Occasional presentations required for Operations team.

Major Business/Professional Contacts

  • Regular contact with leadership, corporate cross-functional partners, warehouse team members, carrier partners and 3PL partners.
  • Occasional contact with customers.

Working and Environmental Conditions

  • Core hours are 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM PST Mon-Fri to align with the East Coast carrier schedule, with some flexibility on occasional weekend as business needs allow.
  • Typically functions in an office environment.
  • Use of computer, keyboard, and telephone required.
  • Rarely functions in the warehousing environment where temperatures are around 35 degrees.
  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

  • Occasional lifting of equipment that may weigh up to 20 lbs.

  • Requires extended periods of sitting and working at a computer screen.
