Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

We Require

  • Two years of library experience

  • Associate's degree in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or related field

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • Library/public library experience with library-related automation systems or databases; eReaders and other digital devices; or creating and implementing programs for youth, teens, and adults

  • Paraprofessional library skills acquired through a specialized educational training program

Job Contributions

  • Plan and present library programming and conduct group tours, school visits, and community outreach

  • Provide reference and reader advisory services and respond to customer concerns in person, on the telephone, and online

  • Facilitate public reading programs and initiatives, and compile and report library statistics

  • Evaluate and cull the collection and serve as a local liaison to the central selectors for library materials

  • Prepare book displays, create posters, bibliographies, bookmarks, bulletin boards, games, and promotional displays

  • Instruct library patrons on the use of PCs, the online catalog, various databases, and the Internet

  • Serve on standing and/or ad-hoc committees

Working Conditions

  • This position works in a library environment with a varied schedule, continually dependent on the branch's needs, and often requires evening and weekend availability

  • Role involves lifting bins, pushing carts, stooping (to shelve), kneeling (to shelve), walking to assist customers with finding materials, walking to and from the staff area to the public area, moving craft and program supplies from various storage areas to the site of the program in the library, and off-site

  • Role involves lifting floor to waist - 20lbs; Lifting waist to shoulder - 5lbs; Lifting shoulder to overhead - 1lb; Carrying a distance of 50ft - 10lbs; Pushing/pulling a distance of 100ft - 50lbs
