QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

This position requires aMaster'sdegree froman ALAaccredited school.Unofficial transcripts must besubmittedwith resume and official transcriptssubmittedupon hire.Also requiresdemonstratedexperiencecataloging inan Integrated Library System (ILS) such as SIRSI and with the Resource Description&Access (RDA) and Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC) components of OCLC. Effective oral and written communication skills; ability toinitiateand maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of library and standard office software programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides original and copy bibliographic cataloging to library materials that conforms to national standards as specified by RDA and Library of Congress (LC) classification, making effective use of cataloging tools such as OCLCConnexion, MARC Edit, Cataloging Distribution Service (CDS) Classification Web andSirsiDynixWorkflows.

2. Classify using the LC classification or other mandated systems and construct call numbers for materials added to the libraries' collections.

3. Assigns metadata for digitized materials adhering to best practice and national standards for digital collections.

4. Performs cataloging and maintenanceforserial materials in print, microform and electronic formats including creating andmaintainingserial control records in the ILS.Works with administrative branch librarians and their staff to ensureserialsholdings are current for all library locations.

5. Ensures that authority records are properly assigned andmaintained. When needed, responsible for running system reports toidentifyunauthorized headings in the online catalogin a timely manner.

6. Responsible for creation of andupdating ofwritten policies and best practices for the Hinds Libraries related to cataloging.

7. Obtains andmaintainsMARC records foreResources.

8. Assists with materials processing for the libraries as needed including unpacking items received, repackaging, barcoding items, pricing items and wrapping dust jackets incovers.

9. Keeps informed in current developments in the areas of cataloging and management of electronic resources.

10. Performs necessary cataloging tasks for library withdrawal,weedingand material relocation projects.

11. Assists with hardware and software installation and maintenance.

12. Assists in budget control in areas of responsibilities.

13. Assists in preparing statistical and other reports and analyses.

14. Assists with collection development and acquisition duties as assigned.

15. Assistsin the trainingof new library employees, student assistants, and library technical assistants.

16. Activelyparticipatesin library and campus committees as assigned.

17. Ensures professional growth by attending PDI courses, workshops,conferencesparticularly those related to library technical services.

18. Performs other duties as may be assigned by theappropriate authority, includingassistingother branch or campus libraries.

19.Maintainknowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities except for the student assistants who work in technical services. Exception: Alllibrarystaffare responsible foroverseeing part time workers, student workers and volunteers and the effectivefunctioning of the building and services of the library when they are the designated staff on duty.
