Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Cut steel plate and pipe samples using Oxy-fuel, plasma torch and CNC robot plasma cutter
  • Prepare and identify samples accurately and clearly and forwards to lab for testing
  • Requires ability to work in an environment subject to fluctuations in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust and noise
  • Physical requirements are medium heavy
  • Must be willing to learn and assist in the duties of a Mechanical Tester
  • Reports to Mechanical Testing Supervisor

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime
  • Knowledge of ASTM,API,MIL,ABS,EN, DIN, ASME, NACE and Lloyds Register testing requirements preferred
  • Good math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, accurate number identification
  • Ability to read and follow detailed procedures and roll pages (work documents)
  • Ability to write legibly and accurately without transposing figures
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willing and able to work overtime to cover for vacations, etc.
  • Willing to be cross-trained for other positions in department
  • Desire and ability to be proactive in meeting needs of customer/departments
  • Ability to work with computers (data input)
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds
  • Pass Ergonomics Test
  • Ability to run lathe, Band saws and Milling machines
  • Good written and oral communication skills

Preferred:

  • Oxy-fuel cutting experience
  • Plasma cutting experience
  • CNC programming experience
