Job description

Homeless Solutions' motto is: "A Hand UP, Not a HandOUT". As an organization celebrating 42 years of service to our community, we pride ourselves in providing people in need with the tools they need to succeed. 

Our Kitchen Aide will have be responsible for supporting the weekend operations (Every other Saturday and Sunday from 4-9pm) of our Main Housing facility kitchen in Morris Township, NJ, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant operations. Additionally, this opportunity fulfills the key function of interacting with the many volunteers who support the organization by planning, preparing and serving meals to our residential clients. This part-time, on-site, hourly role reports to the Volunteer Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Greet and support volunteer groups as they plan, prepare and serve meals, including emergency light food prep coverage for volunteer absences or other emergent situations.
  2. Complete safe and efficient processes related to cleaning and storing all food service items and equipment including cleaning of the kitchen facility.
  3. Interact with shelter guests, calling them to meals at appropriate times and oversee interactions with volunteers during mealtimes
  4. Complete/maintain current ServSafe training certifications.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience with residential settings / multi-dwelling housing facilities is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain ServSafe certification and other required trainings. Food service/handling, dishwashing or other kitchen experience required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to independently prioritize tasks and balance multiple priorities in a face paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience for autonomous and independent decision making while working as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal to positively represent the organization to external stakeholders.
  • Basic technology skills, including use of Microsoft Suite products
  • Physically capable of lifting and carrying supplies, up to 40 pounds.
  • Regular and predictable onsite attendance and reliable transportation are required during the scheduled hours for this position, including during inclement weather.

Part time staff of Homeless Solutions are eligible immediately upon hiring to participate in a 401k retirement savings plan, including up to a 6% company paid match.
