Job description

REPORTS TO: Food Service Supervisor FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt


SCHEDULE: Friday, Saturday and Sunday 5:30am to 5pm

POSITION SUMMARY: This is a Full-time weekend position for a cook to carry out meal preparation, from initial preparation to final meal product. Must know and comply with all agency and health regulations and ensure meals are prepared properly and served on schedule.

The Full-Time Weekend Cook will report to the Food Service Supervisor for weekly schedule and job duty assignment.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepare food and food products in accordance with company policy and health department regulations.
  2. Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation regulations are met.
  3. Prevent food waste by rotating old stock and prepare only the amount of perishable foods necessary to serve the number of clients in-house.
  4. Deliver superior service and maximize client satisfaction.
  5. Respond respectfully to clients.
  6. Assist with daily and special event food preparation and menu planning.
  7. Maintain inventory for food and household supplies.
  8. Other duties as assigned


COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent customer/client service.
  • Culinary experience preferred.
  • Current food handlers permit
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to self-direct with limited supervision to complete job duties efficiently


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.


BACKGROUND/ EDUCATION:

  • Current Food Handlers Permit or able to obtain this permit
  • Must be able to read and follow basic instructions/directions and follow company rules
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred


SKILLS REQUIRED:


  1. Must have organizational abilities to order and sort product.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  3. Ability to handle an upset client in a professional manner.
  4. Experience in food and beverage (F&B) safety and preparation, with ability to remember and recall ingredients and dishes to inform clients and staff of menu.
  5. Familiarity with HIPAA privacy rules.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The employee may be required to exert 21 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 11 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Job duties also require about 6 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in an 8-hour workday. Sitting may be required only intermittently and occasionally. Stooping, bending, lifting, reaching, and carrying is required frequently.

Environmental Conditions:

The employee will work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in hot and humid weather or very frigid temperatures, depending on the season, in order to assist with inventory restocking, The employee may be required to travel independently from one location to another to work at a different location. This may result in bodily discomfort. The house itself is open and ventilated well with central heat and air conditioning. The person may work intermittently outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Mental Demands:

There are several daily deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant levels of stress to some individuals. The position must deal with the clients and staff daily on a variety of issues.

WORK EXPECTATIONS:

  • Maximum of 40 hours per week
  • Must be able to work well with other staff and clients
  • Some travel between facilities may be required
