Primary Location: United States (US) - North Carolina  - Morrisville 

As an Engineering Technician with John Deere in Morrisville, NC (Electrification Lab), you will:

Perform a wide range of tasks related to product verification and validation and advanced R&D. Daily activities are assigned through work orders including test setup, instrumentation installation, building and troubleshooting prototype machines, building wiring harnesses, and fabricating prototype parts. In addition, the technician is responsible for some of the machine pickup and/or deliveries and some facility maintenance and 5S. 

Job details are dependent on duties assigned but in general consist of the following:

  • Work from written or verbal instructions or work orders. Use specifications, test procedures, prints, schematics, diagrams, or CAD models as required.
  • Perform prototype setup, testing and service (including equipment and hardware).
  • Install and troubleshoot instrumentation as needed (Strain gauge, pressure cell, thermocouples, accelerometer etc.).
  • Fabricate / weld brackets, hydraulic hoses, and test fixtures for performance evaluations using specialized equipment.
  • Use various hand tools, portable tools, power tools and equipment necessary for completion of assembly, disassembly, troubleshooting and diagnostics of various prototype products (Mechanical/Electrical/Hydraulics/Pneumatics).
  • Under minimal supervision, performs all phases of wiring harness fabrication such as, but not limited to planning, cutting, splicing, stripping, crimping, lugging, tying, soldering, dipping, ultrasonic welding, assembling, functional/continuity testing and visual/dimensional inspections.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and tools.
  • Transport equipment locally.
  • Perform basic facility maintenance.
  • Cleans work area and performs other miscellaneous duties inherent to the job.
  • May also coach or direct other team members.
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations in the performance of job duties. Promotes safety within the team.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have at least one of the following:
    • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
    • National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
    • At least 3 years of manufacturing work experience
  • Associate’s degree in technology-related field (Electronic Engineering Technology, Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering Technology, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • At least 1 year of related work experience in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems – including:
    • Proficiency using precision measuring equipment; including but not limited to micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, etc.
    • Experience reading and utilizing technical schematics, drawings, and/or datasheets.
    • Experience with on-road / off-road automotive repair.
    • Proficiency using various hand and power tools.
    • Experience with precision test instrumentation (including installation).
  • Experience with computers and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability and willingness to travel (up to 10%) and work potential overtime.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks related to described job duties for duration of work shift; including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
