FINISHING ASSISTANT

Our Staunton, VA facility to looking for Finishing Assistants to provide support to our Finishing Department. This position will be responsible for assisting the Finishing (Gluer) Operators with daily production on our lines by feeding, catching or case sealing our finishing folding cartons.

Primary Responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

  • Locate proper raw materials for operations in staging area
  • Verify quantities with job jacket and check for packing instructions i.e. cases, count, configuration
  • Create / Obtain case labels as required
  • Verify batch numbers and labeling and quality while placing cartons into cases as specified in packaging procedures
  • Verify load tags at feed section of gluer
  • Inspect unfolded/unglued cartons prior to feed to identify defects related to printing or die cutting.
  • Maintains feed section of gluer by placing product to be glued in feed in an orderly manner.
  • Monitor mirrors from feed position to detect machine jams / malfunctions.
  • Perform visual quality inspection of folded/glued containers
  • Communicates all quality issues to machine operator
  • Maintain work area by collecting unused raw materials, dispose of waste materials and store packing equipment (scales, code guns, tape guns, etc.)
  • Communicate equipment problems to supervisor
  • Communicate supervisor of any packaging problems
  • Follow prescribed safety policies
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Comply with all company rules, regulations and safety requirements

Required Skills

An individual in this position must be able to learn and demonstrate the following skills;

  • Use of packing equipment (tape guns, scales, code guns, etc.)
  • Use of a hand jack

Essential Job Functions include the following:

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally (1-10% of the time) lift up to10 pounds
  • Frequently (11-33% of the time) lift up to 50 pounds
  • Frequently (34-66% of the time) walking
  • Occasionally (1-33% of the time) bending, squatting, reaching above the shoulder, stretching, twisting, pushing, pulling, carrying, walking, kneeling, stooping, and fingering
    • Push/Pull force of 50 pounds
  • Frequently (34-66% of the time) reach at waist or lower and grasp
  • Continuously (at least 67% of the time) standing
  • Not at all (0% of the time) sitting or crawling
  • Must be able to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes; safety glasses, steel toed-shoes, ear plugs and cut resistant gloves. Per our quality standards, you must also wear a hair-net

Job Requirements:

  • At least one year of professional working experience, preferred in a manufacturing environment
  • Skills: Mechanical, Communication, Mathematical aptitude required
    • Able to read, comprehend and write legibly
    • Able to use basic arithmetic skills; ability to use a calculator
    • Able to use hand jacks
  • Position will either works 12-hour shift (day or night) which follows a 2-2-3 day schedule OR a 10-hour day shift that works 5-days per week, either 1st shift, 6am-4pm or 2nd shift, 4pm-2am;
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime during the week and weekends if it's required based on production needs and vacation coverage
