Position Overview
Our organization is currently looking for an Academic OB/GYN to join the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology. The academic rank and salary will be aligned with the candidate's qualifications and experience. The selected individual will be responsible for teaching and overseeing resident physicians and medical students across various inpatient and outpatient environments.
Preferred Qualifications
We particularly welcome applicants with interests or experience in:
- Vulvar and vaginal diseases
- Pediatric and adolescent gynecology
- Pelvic pain management
There are also opportunities for professional development in specialized clinic services and clinical research within obstetrics and gynecology.
Key Responsibilities
This position will be based at our Medical Center located on the university campus. Responsibilities include:
- Staffing the obstetric unit
- Supervising the benign gynecology team and resident continuity clinic
- Providing outpatient care
- Participating in in-house and backup call duties during nights and weekends
- Rounding on antepartum and postpartum patients
- Consulting on gynecologic patients
- Offering obstetric and gynecologic consultations to inpatient and emergency departments
- Collaborating with family practice obstetric providers and advanced practice providers
- Engaging in obstetric and gynecologic quality and safety initiatives
- Participating in clinical informatics
Qualifications
To be eligible for this role, candidates must possess:
- A medical degree (MD) or a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology
- ABOG board eligibility or certification
- Licensure eligibility by the Iowa Board of Medicine, with the requirement to obtain licensure prior to starting employment
Essential skills include strong clinical and surgical abilities, effective patient management, excellent oral and written communication, demonstrated teaching capabilities, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative team environment.

About Our Organization
Our health care system, which includes the Carver College of Medicine and the University Hospitals and Clinics, is one of the largest university-owned teaching hospitals in the nation. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is home to distinguished faculty who are leaders in clinical practice, research, and education. The department features a robust residency program with six residents annually and competitive fellowship opportunities in various subspecialties. Active research initiatives focus on preeclampsia, gynecologic cancers, pelvic floor disorders, and infertility, with partnerships extending residency and fellowship training to rural Iowa.
