Position Overview
The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor plays a vital role in overseeing and coordinating the maintenance and care of various grounds and landscapes throughout the county. This role requires a strong understanding of horticulture practices, grounds maintenance techniques, and leadership skills to effectively manage a team of grounds maintenance workers. The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all grounds are well-maintained, aesthetically pleasing, and safe for public use.
Summary of Job Duties
Supervision and Team Management:
Provide effective leadership to a team of groundskeepers, including assigning tasks, setting priorities, and monitoring progress. Delegate tasks and responsibilities ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for staff development and training. Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and regulations.
Grounds Maintenance, Landscape Design, and Snow Removal Planning and Execution:
Develop and implement comprehensive grounds maintenance plans, considering factors such as seasonal changes, budget constraints, and specific requirements for each site. Coordinate and oversee the execution of grounds maintenance activities, including mowing, trimming, fertilizing, planting, pruning, pest control, and snow removal. Monitor the quality of work performed by the team, conducting regular inspections and addressing any issues or deficiencies promptly. Assist in the selection of appropriate plant species, trees, shrubs, and flowers, considering factors such as soil conditions, climate, and aesthetic preferences. Oversee the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, ensuring proper watering and conservation practices are followed. Continuously evaluate the aesthetic appeal of the grounds, making recommendations for improvements or modifications as needed.
Safety and Compliance:
Maintain a safe and secure work environment by enforcing adherence to safety protocols, regulations, and park maintenance standards. Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards and address them promptly. Manage and maintain grounds maintenance equipment, ensuring proper functioning, regular servicing, and adherence to safety protocols.
Budgeting and Resource Management:
Utilize the County's financial system to assist in the development and monitoring of the departmental budget, process invoices, and obtain purchase orders. Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend efficiency measures without compromising quality or safety. Evaluate maintenance and repair needs, recommend equipment and supply purchases, and manage inventory levels.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Must have a current valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record. High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years of experience at the full performance level in grounds maintenance and/or parks maintenance including 2 years of supervisor/ experience OR 2 years of Montgomery County Groundskeeper experience and 4 years related experience in grounds maintenance operations OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements. Preferred - Commercial Pesticide Applicator License Core, 8 Turf Pest Control, must obtain within one (1) year from the date of hire. Requirements may be substituted for the experience required but not for required licensure.

Part-time Employees (Non-Benefits Eligible) (20 hours or less per week): Benefits include Long Term Sick Leave Accrual, Paid Personal Leave, and holiday pay for hours scheduled to work on holidays.
Seasonal Employees: Benefits include Sick Leave accrued at 4.6 hours for every eighty 80 hours in active
pay status. Seasonal employees scheduled to work 40 hours during their period of employment will accrue vacation in the same manner as regular full-time employees and can use their vacation after completion of twenty-six (26) bi-weekly pay periods in active pay status. Part-time Seasonal employees (scheduled to work less than 40 hours) do not accrue vacation.
Intermittent and Temporary Employees: Long-Term Sick Leave accrual is based on hours worked.
