Sports multimedia editor for Wisconsin State Journal

Help the Wisconsin State Journal and the rest of Lee’s Wisconsin sports team captivate and engage audiences by joining our award-winning staff as a sports multimedia editor.

 We are looking for a self-motivated journalist who enjoys having a hand in multiple parts of telling a good story and attracting an audience to it. You will join a five-person team that works with reporters to help improve their stories, ensures they are maximized for the greatest digital reach and helps shepherd our award-winning print sections through the production process.

The job will be based out of our Madison office, which is located a short drive from the state Capitol, and report to our deputy sports editor. Madison offers plenty to keep you busy, from live theater and concerts to incredible biking and hiking opportunities.

You will be part of a staff that encourages creativity and experimentation in how we tell stories. The position does require working some nights, weekends and holidays.  This is an editor role and there will not be opportunities to report.  

 The right candidate will:

  • Enjoy collaborating with reporters to improve their stories and increase their digital reach
  • Help brainstorm story and project ideas across our coverage area, from the Green Bay Packers and NFL to the University of Wisconsin and high schools
  • Be dependable and comfortable multitasking to handle multiple print deadlines
  • Understand the importance of editing stories for style, completeness, fairness, grammar, spelling, accuracy, organization and conciseness
  • Embrace the challenge of writing SEO-friendly headlines for our digital audience and catchy headlines for our print products
