What is a weekend contractor?

Weekend contractors are professionals who perform contract-based work specifically during weekends, often to accommodate project deadlines, business needs, or their personal schedules. They may work in a variety of industries such as construction, IT, event management, or hospitality. This arrangement allows businesses to maintain productivity outside of standard weekday hours while offering flexibility for workers who cannot commit to a traditional workweek. Weekend contractors are typically hired for specific projects or tasks and may be paid hourly, per project, or on a retainer basis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend contractor?

To excel as a Weekend Contractor, you typically need relevant trade skills or professional expertise, such as carpentry, electrical, or general handyman abilities, often supported by certifications or licenses as required by the field. Familiarity with essential tools, safety protocols, and scheduling or project management systems is necessary for efficient work. Strong time management, reliability, and customer service skills help you stand out when working independently or with clients on tight deadlines. These abilities are crucial for delivering quality results, maintaining safety standards, and building a trustworthy reputation for short-term or project-based work.

POSITION SUMMARY
RP Sol is seeking a fellowship-trained breast radiologist for an independent contractor opportunity in Tucson, Arizona. This is a dedicated 100% breast imaging role with shifts scheduled Monday through Thursday and no call, no weekends, and no holidays, available on a full-time or part-time basis to fit the schedule you want.
You'll cover the full spectrum of breast radiology, including:
  • Screening and diagnostic mammography (2D and 3D tomosynthesis)
  • Breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsies
  • Stereotactic breast biopsies
  • Breast wire (needle) localizations
  • Breast MRI interpretation
LOCAL PRACTICE AND COMMUNITY OVERVIEW
RP Tucson has merged with RP Sol to provide radiology services across Northwest Healthcare, one of southern Arizona's largest integrated health systems. You'll read and perform procedures within an established, physician-led group that supports a network of four acute-care hospitals, multiple freestanding emergency departments, 17 urgent care centers, and a multispecialty physician group of roughly 100 providers.
RP Sol provides radiology coverage for:
  • Northwest Medical Center (Tucson) , the system's 300-bed flagship hospital, home to a women's imaging center of excellence with 3D mammography
  • Oro Valley Hospital , a 146-bed, all-private-room acute-care hospital in the northern Tucson suburbs
  • Northwest Medical Center Houghton , a community hospital on Tucson's east side with its own women's imaging center
  • Northwest Medical Center Sahuarita , a neighborhood hospital serving the Green Valley and Sahuarita communities
Breast imaging for the group is centered at the Northwest Medical Center and Northwest Medical Center Houghton women's imaging centers, with 3D mammography and a full breast imaging suite supporting your work.
Tucson is the soul of the Sonoran Desert and the largest metropolitan area in southern Arizona. In 2015 it became the first city in the United States named a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, a nod to its 4,000-year agricultural heritage and a food scene that blends Native, Mexican, and Southwestern traditions. Home to the University of Arizona and framed by the two districts of Saguaro National Park, the region offers abundant year-round sunshine, world-class hiking, mountain and road biking, championship golf, and a noticeably lower cost of living than many comparable metros.
DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Fellowship training in breast imaging preferred; fellows and residents are welcome to apply
  • Board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology (AOBR)
  • MQSA-qualified interpreting physician status preferred
  • Active Arizona medical license, or eligibility to obtain one

COMPENSATION :
Compensation for this independent contractor (1099) role is paid on a per-shift basis at a rate of up to $4,250 per shift. Shifts are scheduled Monday through Thursday, excluding holidays, with no call and no weekend coverage. At a full four-shift-per-week schedule, shift pay alone comes to roughly $884,000 per year (208 shifts annually), with the exact figure depending on the number of holidays in a given year.
In addition to shift pay, contractors are eligible for a productivity bonus, and travel, lodging, and related expenses are covered for contractors traveling from out of state. Final terms may vary based on experience, certifications, subspecialty skill set, productivity, and the number of shifts worked.
