Job description

Blackwood of DC - Urgent Finisher Opportunity!

As a Finisher at Blackwood of DC, you will be part of a team that prides itself on delivering “Rock Solid Performance” in commercial concrete contracting. Main Responsibilities:

  • Creates Forms
  • Sets bulkhead or edge forms.
  • Sets rails for paving, sidewalks, and/or curbs.
  • Finishes Concrete
  • Flattens and consolidates concrete surface with bullfloat, flat check rod (most commonly used) and channel float.
  • Re-straights and flattens concrete surface by using a scraping straight edge.
  • Uses hard toweling and floating to finish concrete.
  • Uses trowel to hit or trowel edges (mostly hand work)
  • Cuts control joints by marking and jointing concrete.
  • Operation of walking and riding machines including magic screed.
  • Apply finally concrete surface finish by using a broom, float, hard trowel, or burnish finish (including use of wood tools.)
  • Uses board to flatten edge.
  • Repairing or finishing concrete using epoxy/latex.
  • Patching and rubbing concrete.
  • Trimming and slip forms for concrete curbs.
  • Finishes structural steps.
  • Sets string line.
  • Sets benchmarks.
  • Uses laser and shot pin instruments, level, transit, and optical level

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess Valid ID
  • Ability to carry out mathematical calculations such as
  • proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Understand the basic concepts of geometry.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure and apply associated math skills.
  • Must have the ability to exert heavy physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, climb or crawl.
  • Ability to tolerate heights without fear.
  • Ability to maintain balance.
  • Work involves exposure to outside weather conditions and dirt, dust, fumes, and/or loud noises.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, sometime early, late, and weekend as needed.
  • OSHA 10 trained
  • Documented training in PPE, fall prevention/protection, scaffolding, excavation, small power tools ladders.
  • Rigger/Signal Person cert card preferred
  • CPR/First Aid Certification preferred
