How much do weekend bookkeeping jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 13, 2026, the average hourly pay for weekend bookkeeping in the United States is $24.31, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.71 and $27.64 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What hourly rate should a bookkeeper charge?

The hourly rate for a bookkeeper typically ranges from $20 to $50, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the work. Freelance or part-time bookkeepers may charge higher rates, especially if they have specialized skills or certifications in accounting software like QuickBooks. Rates can also vary based on whether the work is performed remotely or on-site.

How much should you pay someone to do your bookkeeping?

The pay for a weekend bookkeeper typically ranges from $15 to $30 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the work. Freelance or part-time bookkeepers may charge higher rates, especially if they have specialized skills or certifications in accounting software like QuickBooks. Employers often consider the scope of tasks and the bookkeeper's qualifications when setting compensation.

Is AI replacing bookkeepers?

AI is automating certain bookkeeping tasks such as data entry, reconciliation, and report generation, which can increase efficiency. However, human bookkeepers are still essential for complex financial analysis, decision-making, and ensuring accuracy, especially in small businesses or specialized industries. Many bookkeepers now use AI tools to complement their work rather than be replaced entirely.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend bookkeepers, and how can they be addressed?

Weekend bookkeepers often face the challenge of managing time-sensitive tasks within a shorter work window. Since they may not have immediate access to colleagues or supervisors, clear communication and thorough documentation are crucial for smooth operations. Staying organized and using bookkeeping software effectively helps streamline workflows and ensures that records are up to date for the next business week. Building strong relationships with the team during weekdays and setting clear expectations can also help minimize misunderstandings and improve collaboration.

What is the difference between Weekend Bookkeeping vs Part-Time Bookkeeping?

Industry UsageCommon in small businesses, accounting firmsUsed across various industries, small to medium businesses

Weekend Bookkeeping and Part-Time Bookkeeping share similar credentials and work environments, but Weekend Bookkeeping focuses on weekend hours, while Part-Time Bookkeeping offers more flexible scheduling. Both roles are suitable for those seeking part-time work in accounting or bookkeeping, often in small business settings.

What is weekend bookkeeping?

Weekend bookkeeping refers to the practice of performing accounting and record-keeping tasks specifically during the weekends. This role is often suited for businesses that need to update their financial records outside of regular business hours or for individuals who want to balance bookkeeping work with other weekday commitments. Weekend bookkeepers handle tasks such as tracking expenses, processing invoices, reconciling bank statements, and preparing financial reports. This job requires attention to detail, proficiency with accounting software, and a solid understanding of basic bookkeeping principles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Bookkeeper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Bookkeeper, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and experience with bookkeeping processes, often supported by an associate degree or relevant certification. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and familiarity with payroll or invoicing systems is typically required. Strong organizational skills, time management, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly are essential soft skills. These abilities ensure accurate financial records, efficient weekend operations, and effective collaboration with clients or team members.

Can I do bookkeeping as a side hustle?

Bookkeeping is a flexible job that can often be done as a side hustle, especially for those with basic accounting skills and familiarity with tools like QuickBooks or Excel. Many bookkeepers work part-time or freelance, managing clients outside of full-time employment, but they must ensure they meet any licensing or certification requirements in their area. Time management and clear communication are important for balancing bookkeeping with other commitments.
