About the Role

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company’s financial reporting. This position will own key accounting processes end-to-end, support month-end close, and collaborate cross-functionally to improve financial operations. You will also support core financial operations - including billing, revenue processes, and adherence to GAAP - ensuring the company maintains a high standard of financial discipline. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment.

Responsibilities
  • Manage key components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed variance analyses.
  • Own critical balance sheet and P&L areas, such as revenue, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, or payroll accounting.
  • Support annual financial statement audits, tax filings, and compliance deliverables.
  • Partner with FP&A, Operations, and other teams to ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and consistent.
  • Identify opportunities to automate or streamline accounting processes and drive operational excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred.
  • 4–6+ years of accounting experience, ideally with a mix of public accounting and private industry.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, billing processes, and accounting operations.
  • Hands-on experience with Maxio (or comparable system) for revenue, billing, or subscription management is required.
  • Advanced Excel/Sheets skills; experience with modern ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation

Target cash compensation ranges from $115,000-$125,000, including a fixed annual salary and a performance-based bonus paid quarterly.
This role also includes a stock option grant, subject to board approval.
Actual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's skill level, experience, and specific work location.

We also work hard to ensure Canary is a fun and exciting place to work! Here are some of the additional benefits:

Canary Days:  As a company we want to ensure that the team has time to recharge. Each month we provide company wide days off to ensure there is at least one extended weekend or day off.

Self Improvement Club: We meet each month and share our personal goals for the month. Each individual is provided a budget towards any purchases that help us achieve these goals.

Professional Development Chats: We provide budget to help drive cross functional professional development conversations across the organization.

Travel Reimbursement: Team members are able to visit our offices across New York, San Francisco or Dallas when they choose, and are provided a travel stipend for doing so.  Spend time working with the team in their office, and use the rest of your time exploring a new city!

Personal Travel Reimbursement: If you stay at a hotel that Canary works with, we provide a credit towards your stay.

Canary Technologies is an equal opportunity employer. We recruit, employ, train, compensate and promote talent regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information or any other protected characteristic.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
