The Sr Web Architect, Product Engineering is responsible for architecting and overseeing development, testing, and deployment of our digital platform. Responsible for leading digital innovation and technical strategy for our guest-facing web applications. Conduct high-level analysis to optimize an existing website for navigability. Provide guidance on performance issues, search engine optimization (SEO) potential, and usability. Create high-performance, scalable web applications using modern frameworks and technologies. Lead and manage the migration of on-premises applications to AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity. This role encompasses ownership of the customer online experience portfolio that includes vacation search capabilities, cruise reservations, reservation amend functionality, pre-cruise purchases and content management systems. It requires deep technical expertise in building modern, responsive Web applications, setting standards for the organization, and building the proper architecture. A customer mindset, positive relationships throughout the organization and excellent delivery are key attributes for the this role.
This is a critical role at Princess and the successful leader will enable us to pursue our vision of being a guest centric, best in class online presence in the cruise industry. The role demands a high level of cross team collaboration.
Here's a summary of what Princess is looking for in a Senior Web Architect, Product Engineering. Is this you?
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee development, testing, and deployment of high-quality software solutions, while ensuring adherence to best practices and standards.
  • Use engineering principles to conduct technical investigations involved with the modification of material; component; or process specifications and requirements.
  • Responsible for all aspects of eCommerce Web product engineering - including vacation smart search, cruise online reservations, amend reservations, pre-cruise purchases and CMS modules to drive innovation and increase direct and onboard revenue.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and partners (ie PMO, IT, Enterprise Architecture, Marketing, Security and Data teams) to ensure technology alignment, product success and predictable delivery.
  • Collaborate with the downstream Operations Team to drive operational excellence for our eCommerce Websites. Accountable for ensuring availability, performance and compliance of customer-facing web sites.
  • Recruit, onboard, provide continuous mentorship and coaching to junior team members of the scrum teams.
  • AWS Cloud Migration: Lead and manage the migration of on-premises applications to AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
  • Amazon EKS Management: Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
  • Blue-Green Deployment: Implement blue-green deployment strategies to ensure seamless and risk-free application updates, minimizing downtime and enabling quick rollbacks if needed.
  • Develop risk identification and mitigation strategies associated with the architecture and coding process.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, inclusion, innovation, and excellence while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our product development organization.
  • Establish and ensure best practices for the software development lifecycle including solution engineering, build, and test, inclusive of test automation.
  • Manage vendor relationship for sourcing Web engineering talent, managed services and strategic partners (ie Adobe, Akamai). Leveraging on-site/off-shore resources for efficiency.

It plays a key role in setting engineering standards and ensuring the scalability and reliability of guest-facing applications.
  • Leadership: While the role does not have direct reports, it involves mentoring junior engineers, managing vendor relationships, and leading cross-functional teams. It requires strong leadership to drive collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across the product engineering organization.

Essential/Minimum Qualifications:
  • 8 years demonstrated experience collaborating across an enterprise IT organization. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Math

Essential experience required:
  • 10+ years delivering technology products
  • 5+ years architecting end-to-end engineering solutions
  • 8+ years delivering large-scale consumer-facing systems
  • 3+ years in AWS architecture (EKS, blue-green deployment)
  • 5-8 years in web technologies (JavaScript, React, Java, Spring Boot, GraphQL)

Travel: Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely
